My 12 year old daughter has it in her mind to somehow acquire a pet mink. We have budgeted for her $200 to purchase a pet and $200 for cage, leash toys etc. We are pushing her toward something a little more traditional, like a chinchilla or prairie dog but she is throwing a fit for a mink! I don't even know where to get one.

It is not legal to keep mink as pets without special permits (which cost money) and they do not make good pets. Adult mink are bold, ferocious and virtually untameable. For a 12 year old I wouldn't recommend a ferret either. Ferrets are a great responsibility, tend to have medical issues which require longterm vet care, and can be very costly ($200.00 will not cover it). I would suggest leaning your daughters interests towards a hamster, gerbil, or other small rodent.

A prairie dog, or mink, or chinchilla for a pet? I don't think so. This is probably just a phase. Ferrets a VERY closely related to minks. Go take her to a pet shop or something to see a ferret, and look at other animals that might be nice. She might want something else.

Oh, and praire dogs and chinchillas...I wouldn't consider them traditional.

Why not consider a ferret? They're closely related to mink, and have been domesticated for a long time. Ferret rescue groups are almost everywhere, so your daughter may be able to give a good home to a cute, clever, funny critter that really needs her.

Mink can be purchased from mink farms. I would not suggest it though. Mink are not domesticated even if captive bred. They will bite. A ferret is a more reasonable weasel.

Watching tv is simpler but I love reading literature more

while reading a written booklet, you're stimulating your brain. You better your reading and literacy skills and you simply along the way, are more literate. Despite having today's modern technology, you still need to have the ability to read.
While you're watching t.v. can be good fun, it isn't doing anything to your brain.
