A pitbull can be aggressive just like any other dog, problem is a good pitbull has pretty much the same bite pressure as an alligator.
Pitbulls generally don't like other dogs and usually will attack another dog when given the opportunity. Generally they're not aggressive towards people unless they're defending their territory.
Also remember a lot of times a pitbull won't bark or growl they just jump, you have to look at their body language, if their tail is straight up or arched it's a sign of aggression. Many people misjudge their moods. My first pitbull nearly bit a cable TV guy who thought the dog was mellow because he didn't bark when he opened the gate. He had his tail pointed straight out and arched, a very bad sign.
Problem is when people abuse pitbulls as pups to make them meaner. As terriers they're hyper enough without being tormented. Another problem is that their "macho" image is coveted by the types of people who want a mean type dog as a status symbol.
I've had a couple pitbulls it you treat them right they're great pets, you just have to know their quirks and never forget how strong they are.

Some problems with the breed comes because they have been inbred or misbred. This brings out the worst traits over a period of time. Many home breeders breed them to be mean. If ya breed an ugly with an ugly you aren't going to get pretty.
This breed particularly has this problem because of illegal dog fighting. When purchasing a Pit Bull make sure that you see both the parent dogs. That they are being raised in a family friendly environment. Don't go to a puppy mill where they sell many different kinds of dogs.

Just get your pitbulls from a good breeder. The trouble is that when pitbulls are puppy-mill type bred, they can easily develop a personality flaw, if you will, of becoming quite aggressive and vicious with little provocation. In general, pitbulls can be sweet, loyal companions. So if the puppy mill breeding would stop, pit bulls would not be banned in places.

First off, "pit bull" is a slang term for several different breeds... The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, etc.
Besides all that technical stuff....
Pit bulls are wonderful dogs. I love the breed more than any other. Any dog can bite... It has to do with temperament and the way they were raised... Not the breed!
Every pit bull I've ever met has done nothing more than shower me with kisses, wag their tail like a maniac, and want to play. They're wonderful dogs to have provided you raise them properly. They're not for everyone, they are a large breed and they will challenge you! But placed in the right hands, they are great!
Banning a certain breed of dog due to some bad owners who abuse their dogs and train them to be mean is unfair.
It's no different than racism or racial profiling.
The problem needs to be addressed in a different manner.
If they ban pits, what's next? Rotts? Labs? Goldens? Come on...
Pit bulls are here to stay!

i hate ppl hoo are against pitbulls (or any breed of dog. I have a german shepherd and everyone thinks shes a monster but shes relaly sweet!!) just because they've heard scary stories about them. Yeah, pitbulls can be agressive, but so can any other dog. It is not the pitbulls fault. It is there owners. People with cold hearts train there dogs to fight and hurt. They whip them and treat them like garbage. I think these people should go to jail. There is no reason to outlaw a breed of dog becase of there reputation. Pitbulls can be just as sweet and kind as any other dog if u raise them properly. I no a few that are great pets. my grandmom always told me, it's not the four legged animals u shood be afraid of.... it's the two legged ones (humans). I agree 100%

I think that no matter what breed a dog is, they can be loveable, or they can be mean. It depends on the dog itself, and how it's owner is. I completely agree with that whole banning them, is like trying to ban a race of people, because they're still dogs, no matter what kind. If the owner of the pitbull trains it to be a loveable dog, it will most likely be loveable, just like with any dog. I think that the whole "pitbulls are mean dogs" thiing is just a stereotype.

i have 2 and they are the best dogs i ever had. my male is like my best friend, and the female was an abused dog i took from someone. after i took her, i was nervous about doing certain things. she would have to have both of the bones i got for them. but after she adapted to the house, she was fine. she is the laziest dog ever. she lays down to eat and they will only drink water outta the toilet. i can open a bottle of water put it into a bowl with ice, and they wont even look at it.
i dont think they should be banned, its all about how they were raised. they are just like any other dog. i had a chow that was worse than both my pits together. the chow couldnt be around anybody, and the pits love kids. the neighbor kids come over and play with them all night. the dogs are just like little kids. its great.

Ok i have a question on this as well please come and share your opinions and i do not think pit bulls shoudl be banned because of what WE (HUMANS) have done to them we made them fight and we made them waht they are. Pitbulls can be very vicious dogs and can attack humans but you are STUPID if you think that only pitbulls are capable of it my friends dog got attacked by a pomeranian it just goes to show any dog can turn on you very quickly given the right reasons

Pitbulls get their bad reputation because people with less money and in bad areas know they have a bad reputation and don't train them. They are a bit more stubborn and have a higher pain tolerance, but any dog can be good pets. Unfortunately most pitbulls aren't trained and then get a bad reputation. It's the owners fault, not the dogs.
