I have a 3 year old Wirehair. She has been living with us for about a year now, and the thing is shes 55% out door, and 45% indoor cat ( indoor meaning garage). She is very comfortable out side because she KNOWS it's her territory. She knows who’s supposed to be in our garage, and how my car looks like so when I pull up she’s waiting by the door. She was a stray and I love her so much. I can't stand being away from her. But now were moving. And I'm terrified that she might wonder off from our new house. A few days before we moving I'm going to take her on a leash and walk around our new neighborhood, so she might get familiar with it. she’s also getting chipped. But if you have any suggestions on how I could deal with moving a cat from a very comfortable out/indoor environment, to a totally new place I would love to know. Thank you.

you should keep her in the new place for a month before letting her out. take her out on the leash too as this will help but you should notice her rub herself on the floor this is her leaving her scent so she can get back. good luck.

Keep her indoors for at least 2 weeks in the new house. She'll get more accustomed to her new home and recognize it as such. Therefore, she'll instinctively know where to go when she goes outside.

Have you ever walked her on a leash before? My cats would be humiliated by such an act (never broke them in as kittens doing it). You probably should get a handle on the neighborhood too. Find out where competing cats live, dogs, dangerous teenagers, etc. along with any other wildlife so that she's reasonably safe outside. She may not realize certain things are dangerous to her if she's never been around them before.

Keep your cat in the new home for a a couple of days, she will get to know the smell. After that the cat will go outside and slowly get comfortable with the neighborhood on its own! The first couple of weeks make sure you get the cat inside, so it does not get scared!

I would def keep her in for 2 weeks, then just sit in the garden with her when you let her out for the first few days, i moved 4 weeks ago and this seemed to work pretty well.
An old wives tale(an english thing, supposedly something people used to do)is to rub their paws in butter before they go out so they can follow the scent home. Not really sure if it works, but won't do any harm. Good Luck!

Wherever you go, you have to keep her inside for a 1-2 weeks at least, so that she gets used to the new home as hers. Then you will gradually let her out with your company, to supervise her. Then you will hope for the best! I guess that she will adjust, don't force her to explore the new place immediately, she will take her own time.

Cats can be funny when moving. If possible, keep her inside in a safe place (bathroom or crate) while you are packing up and moving. When you get to your new house, keep her confined when you are away until she is comfortable in your new place and gets used to her now home.

If you can keep her inside the new place permanently that would be a lot better for her. If not, it is suggested that you keep her inside for at least three weeks before you let her out. The first time you do let her out, make sure she is hungry so she won't go far and won't stay gone long.
