I have 4 Zebra Danios, 1 Tiger Barb, and A chinese algae eater. They're in a 10 gallon tank and are fairly small and have not had any problems with them. What would go well with these fish? I'm looking to upgrade to a 20 gallon tank very soon.

The first thing you will want to do is either find a new home for the single tiger barb or get 4-5 more of them. Eventually it will be a problem with only one in the tank. Once that's done and they are in a 20 gallon I would suggest a few medium sized tatras like lemons, bleeding heart, phantoms and others of similar size. A few cory catfish would be a nice addition as well.

Bring the chinese algae eater and tiger barb back to the pet shop and get some blue rams and 1 more zebra. They're great fish, will live with the zebra danios acting as dither fish and show all of the wonderful parental and behavioral aspects of larger cichlids without the aggression.

I would get 4 or 5 more Tiger Barbs, a couple Loaches(look for ones that hide less), some Tetras(Noen are nice), a Pleco(they get big very fast though so I would hold off until I got the 20gallon), 4 or 5 Blue Gouramis(nice colors and calm, again wait for the 20 gallon for those, because they need room), basically fish that don't fight with other fish, and fish with bright colors, research the fish before you buy, check out some compatibility charts, and this website (great place to get supplies) www.liveaquaria.com, compatibility chart----> http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompatibility_chart.cfm <----

Tank setup is important when it comes to a community tank, fish have territory problems if you don't set it up right. Lava rock works great for a community tank(adds biological and territory), you want 2 to 3 inches of gravel, with about 200(or more) Gallons per hour filtration, leave an empty area for the fish to swim around in, maintain your tanks, your fish will love you for it, remember the bigger the tank the easier it is to take care of.

Have fun with your fish searching.

I'd definately get more tiger barbs - they are a shoaling fish and in groups of 5 or more they keep their fin-nipping habits to the other tigers instead of other fish.

Once you have a larger tank - how about some zebra loaches - they're also a social fish so need to be kept in groups of at least 3 to be happy. They're smallish bottom feeders with lots of personality and character. Plus they keep the snails down.

pretty much any tropical fish will go. You might have to watch the tiger barb, because they can be aggressive. You could get any tetras, the neons are cool. I like silver dollars too, its best to get them in at least pairs though.

First I would get a couple more danios, because they are schooling fish, and do well in groups of 5 or more.Swordtails are nice and they are a hardy fish(hard to kill). Or maybe a redtail shark I think their pretty cool.

I'd recommend a placostemous (spelling is probably wrong). They work well with most any type of fish, they help keep the tank clean, and live for a long time. My sister even had one in with her oscar.
