This obviously shows that i'm a first-timer at this... I asked a previous question about my dog's bleeding vagina and many people said i should have her "spayed" because she's in "heat".. what do these terms mean? what happens if i don't get here spayed? what happens if i do?

oh and sorry if my question is a little stupid... like i said, this is my first time...

As I said in an earlier post, I just adopted a kitten from the side of the road, and I will be taking her to the vet later on, but for now is there any general adivce? I've never actually owned a kitten before (my husband has but is already at work) so i'm not entirely sure what to do. I also have a six month old, and they seem to get along well despite a pulled ear to which she didnt even hiss.
What are some must haves of cat care? What is the difference between cat foods? I keep hearing use wet, but all I know is my husbands parents have cats on dry food who lived to be 19+. What are the pros and cons to declawing? Are there any good home made cat toys until I can run to the store? Anything a seasoned vet has for a newbie would be appreciated!
Oh, and a way to get her to stop prancing on my laptop would also be appreciated!

I have 2 chihuahua pups, brothers, 12 weeks old, the bigger one is greedy! He fights over everything, he hoards toys, bones, anything that the other may have , he has to take it away, he actually fights with his brother, teeth barred, biting etc. What caused this problem as they have lots of toys and plenty of food, any ideas how to stop this behavior?

He sulks when i play with them, stipulates that they are dirty and should not be allowed on the sofa, and grumbles when they meow for attention. He gets loads of attention from me but just cant seem to cope with me spending time with them. Is this going to get any better or worse???? Giving them up is not an option! Does any ones else’s partner get jealous or am i living with a loonie??

After I answered your question, you said the dogs sleep outside. This is simple.... you cannot correct an unwanted behavior if you are not there to correct it.

Don't expect your outdoor dogs to live like indoor dogs. Barking is a natural behavior and to an animal who lives outside, it is part of his survival. You created it. Live with it or bring them inside.

I just adopted a stray cat not a full twelve hours ago, she was found on the side of the road near the remaining half of her mother. I am taking her to the vet but have heard horror stories about the diseases she may carry, and now, the corner of one of my eyes is kind of numb and tingly. Anyone know if it may be related to my new found friend? I already had a doctors appointment set for wendsday for other reasons...should I mention the cat?

My 11 month old mini daschund is driving me absolutely insane. It is 3:40am and I am awake!! Ever since she was born, at nighttime we put her in a cage to sleep. At first, it was just meant for house training, but we continued on because when we did let her sleep with us, she would keep me up all night. She would sleep between my legs, and move ALL night long. She has adapted very well to this. However, in the last week, even during the day outside of the cage, she does nothing but whine. I've pet her, held her, put her out to go to the bathroom, and nothing is helping. Is she depressed? I have no idea what to do. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I already get up 2-5 times everynight to go to the bathroom and she keeps me up the rest of the time. I'm at a loss, extremely frustrated and exhausted. Please, somebody, tell me what to do.

where they will be loved and cared for?
I don't want to get rid of them but I feel like it's too big a task for me to take care of them.
I've been feeding them formula, as they are 3 days old & the momma ran away.
I tried looking for a serrogate momma cat, to no avail.
where would be a place I could take them?
could I just drop them at the vets or does it have to be someplace in particular?

Weird question.. But we have an older cat (Female), That has always been skinny all her life (Never fixed). Well we moved to a new place and lost a cat (a sister) we had.. And got a male kitten a few months later.. Well.. Now my old cat is getting fat.(I truly believe it's because she is more happier she is in her new place, and sadly to say, lost her sister).. But my wife keeps thinking Buddy (our kitten) got her pregnant!..(which I doubt)
So.. When is the earliest a male kitten can impregnate a female cat?

Their tiny chihuahua keeps on crapping in my yard. It had 4 babies which means 4x the crap. A fence is out of the question because we can't afford it and the owner won't put one up. Talking to the neighbors, bad idea...why? Let just say they are not good understanding people. They sell illegal stuff...if you know what I mean!!! What can I do?

Just yesterday I bought a VERY pregnant white & yellow platy. She looks like she could pop any minute. I'm very new to keeping fish so I need some help. I also have 3 neon tetras and a "sucker fish" in the tank with my platy. I have some breeding grass floating at the top of the aquarium. I bought a breeding net today (not in the tank yet) but I'm hearing different things about whether or not I should put the pregnant platy in it. Is it better to keep her in the net or out and just let the fry swim into the breeding grass? Thanks for any help/tips you can give. I sure would like for at least a couple of the babies to survive.

I am about to start a 2 yearold paint for western pleasure. I have always started my colts in snaffles, but I know most people start their two year olds in bosals. Is it be better to start in a snaffle, so introducing the bit wont be an issue later? Is it against show rules to show a colt in a bit? Why do people start in bosals? Any info on the topic is very much appreciated.
thanks,
Karen

My dog had her teeth cleaned today and the vet said her bloodwork was high in a couple of areas. These high 'marks' may indicate Cushing's Disease. She is on antibiotics and he's hoping the antibiotics will bring these numbers down and the high numbers were just a result of too much bacteria in the liver. She'll be tested again next Tuesday and if the numbers are still high, he'll do the specific test for Cushings. Basically, if you have had experience with this whether it was your own dog or you work for a vet, what did you do? What steps did you take to help the dog? I know medication may be involved. I would like to know if you chose medicine, herbal remedies or decided your dog had a good life and let the dog go (euthanasia). I don't think the last option is an option at all, not at this point. Thanks for any advice!

i dont remember what they said it was when i purchased it but it looks similar to a pleco as far as basic body form but he is not a sucker fish he has a mouth and very prominent feelers that look like a mustache he can feel around inbetween rocks and what not, when he was little he had an amazing pattern on him (which is why i bought him) it was a very distinct black spiral pattern over grey , now he looks spotted in stead. i know he is from africa , so what is this fish or at least what TYPE of fish is it so i can research.

Later he developed at 11ish arthritis & has been takin rimadyl when needed I found out he has a heart murmur - aparentally born w/it. Now he has Lame Legs where you push on a part of his spine his back legs'll drop. He was doing fine on rimadyl &I went away for Lake George on my birthday. I got back & he seemed depressed (yet usually when I get back from trips hes so excited and jumpin all over me). Hes recently havin breathin problems - pantin in a way (which might be showin pain which Ive heard pantin is sometimes a sign of it Its not a "I'm-hot-let-me-cool-off" type of pant. Its when he even sleeps now which I think the heart murmurs kickin in (since hes never had meds for his heart murmur). His back legs are problematic He doesnt sit normally most of the time now. 1 leg sometimes is straight out & the other sittin normal (for ex:). I think it might b time to put him down, but its hard hes been in my life, my shadow & my love- a son. I kno its better to take him out of pain

Hi everyone. I am wanting to adopt a dog to take back to school with me when the summer ends. I have a slight problem, however. My parents have an 11 year-old female Dalmatian who does not get along with other dogs; we've never tried to introduce her to another dog for a prolonged period of time, but whenever we go on walks and she sees another dog, she jumps and tries to lunges towards it. This is obviously an obstacle if I'm wanting to bring another dog into the home a couple of months before school starts. I know some might say to just wait closer till I go back to school, but I think I may have found the perfect dog for me already, a 6 year-old male Welsh Corgi, and I'd hate to pass him up. I'd also hate to adopt a dog and have a bunch of problems because I can't get our Dalmatian to get along (the other dog already gets along with other dogs). Can our Dalmatian be socialized at her age? Or would it likely just be a lost cause? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
