I have 2 Gourami and one of them has EATEN the others tailfin! I have just had them for 5 days and whenever i feed them with pellets they dont eat them and they just drop to the bottom. One of them has been really agressive with the other stopping it eating etc. I have removed and disposed of the other fish as it was very surely going to die when i was out today. I have subsequently switched to flakes however there has been no change as yet (this has just happend this morning though)
My water checks (Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, PH) are all fine.

I have a 60 Litre tank (I'm not too sure what that is in Gallons)
The temp is under 80 (it's about 25-27 Celcius)
I'm not sure what kinda Gourami's... they are gold! (i'm new to the whole fish game!)
No there is nothing else in the tank :)

Thanks for your help everyone! Wish i could pick all the answers as the best!

That happens sometimes with fish like gourami. The only solution was to remove one of the two fish. Now that the distractions are out of the tank he should start eating properly soon.

Could have been that you had two males. Some male fish are very aggressive. How big is the tank. Sometimes they need more room so they don't run into each other so easily. Also can plant it with silk or plastic plants. Put in some places to hide.

Gourami's are not usually bottom feeders so they would prefer flakes or some other floating food.

Another thing that encourages aggressiveness is a water temperature around 80 degrees or higher. This warm temp. makes fish eat more and move around more.

What size is your tank? If you have 2 dwarf gourami in a 10 gallon is asking for trouble. Most dwarfs on the market are males and male gourami will fight over territory if the tank is not large enough. I recommend separating them and returning one to the store.

what kind of gouramis? is there nothing else in the tank? gouramis are better in larger groups -- i have a tank of different gouramis -- even a betta -- and nobody bothers anybody. the betta has even adapted to swimming around with some of them.
