The best kind of cat to get is one who has been rescued. If you are looking for specific breed, go to "Petfinder.com" and look for a listing of groups who rescue that breed.
But, I think cats are a lot like dogs in that the "mixed," alley/house cats are the best. They haven't been interbred by breeders who mate mothers with sons, and thereby increasing the likelihood of any breed specific health problems. Their temperament is better, and they come in all colors and fur length.
Whatever you decide - please do a couple simple things to keep your new cat safe and healthy. First, keep your new family member as an "indoor only" cat. Second, get your cat spayed or neutered as soon as it is old enough. It will keep your cat happier (no problems with going into heat or wanting to chase every female cat around) and more likely to be content staying inside. If yours chases sunbeams for napping - there are window seats for cats that give cats plenty of time in the sun.
Enjoy your new kitty. They make such great pets!!

Get a tuxedo cat from your local rescue center/ shelter. The ones I know are very even tempered, very loving, make sure it's been spayed or nuetered . Tuxedo cays are black and white. My neighbor has some and they are the most loving cats I've ever been around. I'm like their cat uncle I play with them and they go home. lol I love those little kitties

All cats can be loveable, no matter what breed. It is best to get a kitten from a shelter, because when they are kittens, they can be trained to your house rules, and your lifestyle. After a cat is older, they are really stubborn, and won't adjust easily. But, mixed breeds are just as wonderful as purebreds, and expensive cats. I have two mixed breeds from a shelter, and they're great! Good luck!

Go to your local shelter & let the cat choose you. Personality is more important than looks or breed, just like with people. You'll know when you've been adopted as a cat's human.

All cats are great. Each one has her own personality. It is best to rescue an orphan cat, of mixed race, instead of looking for a purebred. They are often healthier and more grateful!

Go to the shelter and pick out a cat there. There will be one that wants to go home with you.

The cat that you automatically fall in love with.
Don't look for a specific type or color.
Basically, let the cat pick you.

I have found that Female cats with blue eyes are the best because they don't have an Oder to them.

A rescue. Spayed and/or neutered, UTD on all shots and testing. You can't go wrong.
