I have a one and a half year old chihuahua that I put in an open-style crate while I go to work. I get home during lunch and let her out, etc. How long is too long for her to be in there? I leave food and water, toys, etc. and she never has accidents but don't want to be inhumane.

We have a 10 month old son and the puppy is 11 weeks old, almost house trained. I'm worried that all of them are hyper but my husband assures me they are not.

I'm gathering info for a rescue coalition meeting tomorrow.

Have you have ever given away a dog (I'm working with dogs specifically, so do not include other pets) that was your personal pet? If so, why? Was the dog spayed or neutered when you gave it away? Have you followed up to see what happened to the dog? If you could have resolved the issue that made you decide to give away the dog, would you have kept him or her?

Does your area have g'vt-funded animal control? Did you contact them to take your dog? Does your area have a humane society or rescue? Did you contact them? With what results?

If you don't mind, please answer the following semi-personal questions... as few or as many as you're comfortable with: Are you in the U.S.? If no, what country? If yes, are you in the northeast, southeast, midwest, west, southwest (or you can be a bit more specific)? This is most relevant as far as location: Do you live in a city, small or large town, urban or rural area?

Here's the deal. My dog somehow got into a box and ate a decent size cube of rat poison. This chunk was about the size of a little boy's hand balled into a fist. Once I realized what he had done I jerked him up and ran him to the bathtub, sat him in and poured peroxide down his throat to make him vommit. He vommited twice. We got in touch with three different vets and I am taking him to one early tomorrow morning for a vitamin K shot to counteract the poison. He is a pretty good size pup. Not quite a year old but a 55 pound pitbull puppy. Is there anything else I can do to ensure that he will be fine. Will he die? I sure hope, I care to much for him. The thought of him dying just makes me horribly sick to my stomach. Any other home remmedies untill tomorrow morning when he goes to the vet? Maybe even pour the peroxide down his throat once more to make him vommit again. The poison was colored blue and thats all he threw up was two huge sized ammount of blue stuff. Please help me! Thanks

She's around 2 years old, her name is Shady. Her previous owners declawed her, gave her a terrible spay job (according to the vet), and abandoned her until my parents found her. After nursing her back to health and a trip to the vet, she was fine physically, though most likely she's been abused/neglected. I live in a small apartment with 3 rooms. Normally, she's fine. She always has fresh food and water, and her litter is far away and always clean. I'm in college, so I'm not always here though.

She's done this one before for a couple weeks and then just stoppped. It's long cries for no reason. She'll do it for 10 minutes straight, up to 20 times a day. Her meows aren't normal, they are long cries and VERY loud. I'm getting very frustrated, and I've tried ignoring it, yelling her name, chasing her playfully, etc.

I have 4 other cats, so I do have experience. I'm taking her to a vet soon, but is it possible she's going in heat despite being spayed? Please help, thanks.

Saw this beautiful fish at my local petstore. I've got a 30 gallon tank that's empty, and I've bred fish before. I love this fish but there is hardly any websites about this different breed. Any info you could share?

My 12 y/o daughter, Jessika, wants a Labrador puppy for Xmas this year. I told her that it's not a good time around Xmas and I might get her a Lab puppy early/mid next Jan/Feb. The problem is, she wants one from a "reputable, registered" breeder. I told her why spend $800 for one when I can get one for $300 in the newspaper. Is there really a difference? I know about hip and elbow dysplasia but really, what are the chances of the pup getting dysplasia later in life?
She is very responsible and seems very comitted in getting a Lab. She has spent over 5 months researching the two breeds she wants: Lab or Golden Retriever. She decided that all the fur on the Golden would be a bit difficult for her to manage so has now been researching Labs even further! She spends hours on the net looking up breeders, info on dysplasia and other hereditary diseases etc.
I know not many 12 y/o's are as responsible when reasearching for a pup.
I have an 11 y/o son who now wants a JRT!

What do I do?

Would like some feedback. My 60 pound dog is scheduled for a tooth extraction(molar)this next week. The vet is charging me about $722.00. Does anyone know if this is about the going rate? Have never had to have this done before, so I do not know. Anyone out there know? Thank you.

Okay to my last question. Okay, my little kitty, tonight is it's first night here. and well umm. How do I tell if it needs to go potty? He's staying in the cat carrier so he can get used to being in it, cause we won't be home at 5 am, to 2 pm cause we are at work. we come home at 11 for lunch for an hour. but. well. yea I just need to know the signs there are for when it has to go potty cause I can't let him roam around because he'll get lost haha, and he likes to go into the little crooks and cranny's that could hurt him.

That was my last question. some of you thought that I was saying that I lock my cat away... well I never once said that I lock her a way. I am just saying that While me and my husband are gone . I am going to put her in the bathroom with the litter box, thanks to a suggestion by someone. I just wanted to clear that up. oh and I am a very good pet owner. I have two cats and a dog! So don't tell me to get rid of my cat and to giver her to a good home cause she has one
