She's around 2 years old, her name is Shady. Her previous owners declawed her, gave her a terrible spay job (according to the vet), and abandoned her until my parents found her. After nursing her back to health and a trip to the vet, she was fine physically, though most likely she's been abused/neglected. I live in a small apartment with 3 rooms. Normally, she's fine. She always has fresh food and water, and her litter is far away and always clean. I'm in college, so I'm not always here though.

She's done this one before for a couple weeks and then just stoppped. It's long cries for no reason. She'll do it for 10 minutes straight, up to 20 times a day. Her meows aren't normal, they are long cries and VERY loud. I'm getting very frustrated, and I've tried ignoring it, yelling her name, chasing her playfully, etc.

I have 4 other cats, so I do have experience. I'm taking her to a vet soon, but is it possible she's going in heat despite being spayed? Please help, thanks.

She also constantly does little kicks with her back legs, like she's uncomfortable, even while sitting. Her entire backside is very tender, and she hates to be touched there. I can tell it's not just her getting irritated with me, but it's genuine pain. Thanks for all the answers already, I'm going to get her to a new vet next week and if she needs it, her regular vet ASAP. Thanks again.

Definitely sounds like she's in heat. Ours is doing to right now.

She shouldn't be in heat if spayed so I really would check that out. The vet must know what's going on.

Many reasons but one is as my cat does it-all of a sudden they do not know where you are and will cry like that.- my cat is very close to me and would spend all her time except eating and litterbox trips on my lap if I'd let her. Could also be that your cat(cats as many other animals have memory)remembers remembers the loneliness, fear of her abandonment or/and even the pain, agony actually at getting declawed Could also be since she got a terrible spay job that not done right and may have some of the ovaries or ovary left but the vet should be able to determine that. But if in heat I'd think there would also be some spotting of blood going on. I think probably some memory is awakened or jarred into her conscious mind and a reaction to that for the meows are sorrowful, right. Because the meows are reaction, verbalizing to some internal terror or extreme lonelines you can't stop unless you stop or distract away from the memory, the cause. Why not have a special treat that she jut loves, can't resist and when she begins you offer the treat. It'll serve a two-fold purpose-stop the meowing temporarily and replace the bad/terrible memory with a pleasurable exoerience-the treat(called conditioning)and although it'll take a while to permanently get rid of ,if at all ,the memory it'll accomplish more than what you are doing now-confusing and probably scaring the cat-which only intensifies the feeling causing the meowing. If she reacts to CATNIP tha would be a good thing for would definitely distract aND Also CALM Her. Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Hopefully this is unrelated, but my previous cat started meowing constantly like that and would crouch on the floor like he had to go to the bathroom. This went on for the better part of an afternoon before my wife and I finally got him to a vet. They told us that he had a pretty bad bladder stone (he was also about 2 years old at the time).
The vet told us that it is a pretty common thing for cats. They either have them (and have problems with them their whole life) or they never get one.
To make a long story short (too late, I know), I would get the kitty to a vet asap. It might be nothing, but you should play it safe and get her checked out. Hope this helps. Cheers!

sounds like she's going into heat, but really a vet would know better than anyone on here. if they did a shotty job spaying her, it may be possible she stills goes into heat. also, i have a male cat who was neutered before we got him and he humps. I know it sounds funny, but it's true. we think maybe he had sex before being neutered and maybe that's what is happening to your cat. i dunno i could be wrong.

this happen to me once. do you have a close relationship with her ? if you do she might be trying to return the favor by warning you about an illness or she is trying to tell you something. So i recommend you to go to the doctor as well.
