Aldi has scoopable cat litter for $3.00
It's called Fine Feline and it's a 14 lb. jug that is lightly scented with baking soda. It's not too perfumey which is good.
We are just trying it out, so far it seems to work just fine.

I've worked in a vet clinic before and the vet used the cheapest litter he could find, whatever that was. There were several cats that actually lived there and they never had a problem. But their litter boxes were changed 2x/day. Keep the box clean and there shouldn't be a problem. However if I were to have a cat for a pet, I would want the litter that forms clumps when wet so that you can scoop the dirty litter out. That just makes more sense to me. If the cat developes allergies, then you might want to look at more expensive litters, but you can talk to the vet about that. Good Luck!

we use Fresh Step
natural can be bad. My Pastor & his wife used some wood type litter for their cats & when thier cats would lick it off their paws they ended up swallowing the small
wood bits & got ill, they change back to the fresh step litter after that & the cats are fine.

Clay,Dirt,Sand,I owned like 3 cats over the years and never bought any store packaged junk. Had to change it often, but actually that is safest way to be for you and the cat.
Its also eco happy, so you too can Save the World!

I have had wonderful results from Feline Pine. It's not the cheapest litter, but all you have to do is pour it in and, one month later, dump it out and pour in a fresh batch. It controls odor very well; if my cat "lays a bomb" I may catch a whiff but the smell quickly disappears.

We use the cheap no name absorbent rock ones for our cat but are using the paper based (not so cheap) right now for the kittens as they tend to want to eat the rocks.
It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive, it comes down to what your cat likes. If it doesn't like its litter, it won't use it.

Vermiculite. you can buy huge bags of the stuff at produce stores for like $10 and it (the bag, you have to change it every few days) lasts months. and you can put it on your garden after, it acts as a water retainer so its good for the plants.

we use the silica crystals. they absorb the smell better if ur cat buries its business. but, on the label most say it lasts for 2 months. dont wait that long, change it completely every 3 weeks or so. there is one brand that makes them for 'kittens' but my full grown male likes it, its only about $3.50 per bag (walmart)
