I have lived most of my life in Wisconsin, but I am currently living in western South Dakota. It gets plenty cold here. I am not worried about the heating expense, just that I want to conserve and be a bit more eco-friendly. What are good ways to conserve home energy in the winter?

i forget what they are called but they are like a sonic thing or something and it gets rid of the mice. i just want to know if my guinea pig will be okay. we saw a mouse run in through our dog door and we tried to catch it but we couldnt find it, and we dont want to kill it so we bought one of those things you plug into the wall.
will my guinea pig be okay or should we send her to relatives while this is working?

Is there a substance that will take a mold of something written in concrete? It will be backwards, so I would need to apply ink and press onto paper and frame. Any ideas? They are feet and writing. It needs to also be able to set fast.

I'm looking to heat an indoor area, similar to a cabin. (it's actually a garage, but quite large, with an upstairs).

I'm wondering if I could get some suggestions for specific products (LINKS TO THEIR SITE INCLUDED PLEASE!) based on:

Price
Efficiency
Value
Dependability
Fuel source (electric, oil, etc?)

Thanks to all who help!

My suite is small. I know a stove fan would help (any fan), but I don't have one. The bathroom fan seems very ineffective, maybe needs to be replaced. I open the windows a bit and that helps, but its winter now - it snowed yesterday...

If fans really do help I will look into getting mine installed/replaced - but in the meantime, are there simple things that can help? A space heater under the windows in question, maybe?

Ever since we've moved into our new apartment, we've always had a bug problem...but at first, it was spiders. We called the landlord, and exterminators have been to our apartment to spray at least 4-5 times over about 2 years. The most recent spray was just 2 months ago, and now the apartment is infested with "rolly bugs" or pillbugs. The weird thing is that they are only in the bathroom, and there is a large gap between the floor and the baseboard.

Well, last night I was drying my hair, and after I finshed, I looked over towards where that crack is. I swear, it looked like dirt on the floor! I went over and looked, totally confused...and it was like thousands of little bugs...everywhere! I have no idea what they can do, we've sprayed but this is the first time that has happened. And, I don't think pillbugs have big egg sacks or anything. Any advice?!

I've tried a few and most just tend to smell of smoke. Yes, I realise that there is a bit of smoke involved but there must be a brand of incense that actually smells like what it says it's supposed to smell of!

I bought a security light over the weekend at B & Q for just under £30 reduced to £15. I have been quoted "no more than £100" to fit it by a qualified electrician. Am I being ripped off or it that about right?

I recall in the past people made fake snow to put on trees and such made from Ivory snow. Im wondering if anyone knows how to make it, how to put it on an artificial tree, and whether or not this would be something you could do one year and then take off and not have it ruin the tree? Any ideas?

Weird question, but can roaches mess up your electronics? We bought this nice new expensive dvd player and after 3-4 months it wasnt working well, the movies would freeze up and one night the dvd player just started making this crazy sound even when it was turned off. So we decided to send it back to the company when i picked up the dvd player i found lots of dead roaches under it. I even found a small one crawl out of it. I also noticed (before i noticed the dvd player) that our digital clock would keep turning off and on, i just thought it was broken, but today I said let me put in some batteries to make sure theres not a problem with the wire. I open it up and i find dead roaches. I mean is it possible? And please dont say you need to clean and stuff. I moved in two yrs ago with my hubby and his mom and they've been living in the same apt for the last 10 yrs. So its gonna be hard to get rid of them, and i do sweep and dust every week. I know our bedroom isnt as bad as other rooms.
