That's the strange thing. Those little freakin gnats "fruit fly's" are everywhere and only a banana went bad like two weeks ago and we got rid of it then. They are still there and multiplying.

Vinegar or pickle juice also works really well. We had a friut fly problem at work, and I set up a coke bottle with vinegar in it by a window and near the trash can. Everyday I came in and there were more drowned flies - and other ones that were easy to kill because they were drawn to the window. After about a week, I got them under control.

Keep your fruit in a covered bowl or the fridge.

To make a fruit-fly trap, take a wine bottle with a few inches of wine still in it. Take a small piece of paper and make a little cone. Clip off the tip of the cone, so a fruit fly could get through the hole. Rest the paper cone, tip down, in the wine bottle opening.

Flies go in, but they can't get back out!

I've had success with cinnamon. Gnats and flies seems to be repelled by it. Make a "tea" using cinnamon sticks then put it in a spray bottle and spritz everything that won't be damaged by it. Just spray the outside of the pot and not on house plants though. Combine this with the trap suggestions and you can trap the ones already in the house and repel new ones from coming in.

Get rid of whatever fruit or veggie may be sitting out. Keep fruit and veggies in your fridge. Once you have this done, pour two glasses of red wine. Set one on the kitchen counter, and sit back and enjoy the other for yourself. The fruit flies will land in it, and drown. Keep the glass of wine on the counter for a day or two. If need be, refresh the glass in a couple of days.

Do you have any houseplants? Sometimes the gnats breed in the soil. I read that if you add a little dish soap to the water before you water your plants, it will kill the larvae.
