Get your deposite made, and your first months rent, find out when you can start moving in, and then start moving little by little. Until then, pack what you can live without for a few weeks, pack it acording to room and write on the box whats in it.
Call the phone company with the address tell them your move in date and tell them you want phone service there by that date. do the same with the electric and gas company. Get a PO box so the bills can be send there instead of the apartment if you want.
Its not hard, its just a routine. Ive moved soooooo many times. Calling the major utilities and having them set up before you move is always the easiest thing to do.

Tackle anywhere you want to! Pack up stuff you dont use daily first, they can get out of the way and make it easier! Then cancel your utilities up to the date of move, at the same time activate your new places stuff so its ready for you when you get there. Then just start clearing stuff out, rent a storage place for the month if you need the room! Go room by room and it should all get done! Then once its packed give it a cleaning once over and that should do it! Good luck! and Congrats on the move!

Boxes...and if you can drag a big garbage can or dumpster over...more the better...
This is the time where you decide to finally dump all non-essentials junk you'll never do anything with, other than lug it around the rest of your life for no reason...
Category A: Things I can throw away...cause I know I'll never use them again in this lifetime...
Category B: Things I can throw away...because even if I need them in the future...they are easily replaceable...
Category C: Everything else...
Get many boxes and trash bags together...pile everything into a need little corner of a room near the exit...pull the vehicle up...load up...rinse & repeat only backward when you get to your new location...
Hope this helped...this is my ninth domecile since I moved out at the tender young age of 18...I'm 43 now...

Get boxes, wrapping/packaging materials, plenty of tape, a couple good markers and some scissors. In each room pack the stuff that you don't use first - as you are packing those things put aside stuff you can donate (it's much cheaper to donate before you move than to pay to move the stuff or heft it yourself and then get rid of it). Make regular runs to wherever you donate the stuff to get it out of the way. Make sure stuff is clean when you pack it. Make sure you pack like things (don't have a box marked "ham, kitchen towels, ice tea maker.....). As you pack the box make a quick list of what's going in the box, and mark the outside with a unique letter to correspond with your list (this will help with unpacking and insurance issues). As you finish a box mark it clearly on the outside where you want it to go and what is in it. (Spring the extra money for the clean wrapping paper from a local packing/shipping company - it's so much nicer than dealing with newspapers and doesn't cost that much more.)

Don't be overwhelmed!! You'll get through it!!
Start by going through your closets. Throw away anything that doesn't have sentimental value that you haven't worn, used, or looked at in over a year. All that stuff you have that you have kept on the basis of "I'll use it someday" needs to get gone...'cause you're probably never going to use it. LOL Just trust me on this one.
Go gather some boxes from local businesses. Auto parts stores, grocery stores, discount stores, etc. They're usually more than happy to give you the boxes they were going to throw away. Don't get boxes that are huge, because they are often hard to move. If you do get any really big boxes, pack items in them that are really light.
Ask co-workers and friends for their old newspapers. Most people just bundle them up and either throw them away or recycle them.
Then pack up things you don't use very often - bakeware, books, knickknacks, clothes that are out of season, holiday decorations, etc. Label all of your boxes not only with the contents of the box but also what room you'd like to put them in. It works best to box things from each room together, because unpacking won't be such a mess. You don't have to pack room by room. You can do a box from the kitchen, a box from the bedroom, etc. but keep those like items together.
A little hint from me to you: get some egg-carton boxes from your local grocery store for clothes: they are usually very strong and longer than they are wide. Take clothes you aren't going to wear that are on hangers and fold them over - WITH THE HANGERS STILL IN THEM. When you move, all you have to do is unfold them and hang them up. This saved me hours of unfolding clothes, putting them back on hangers, and hanging them up when I moved.
If you pack two or three boxes every evening, saving the items you use for the night before your big move, you won't feel quite so stressed out.
Good luck!

Finding a place to move to and getting the lease and all the utilities turned on is a good place to start. Having done that, you should pack everything in boxes. Get a trailer, friends with pickup trucks, helpers, and lots of refreshements and food and move.
