The kids like to hang out food for the birds in the winter which we would normally buy. I'm wondering if there is a more economical way to feed the birds.

Cheers!

We have an old wood burning stove, and we were thinking about putting a gas insert inside it with those gas logs. That way instead of using wood, we could just have it hooked up to our natural gas and turn it on that way. But when we visited our local fireplace store, they told us that can't be done. We're wondering if that is true, or if they were just trying to sell us a new gas stove. Any advice out there??

I keep my dog food in a plastic tub with a sealed lid in the garage. Something has been chewing along the plastic edges of the lid. Is this chipmunks or rats? Ideas to get them out are also appreciated.

woke up this morning to find a mouse stuck in my tub that has sliding shower doors. I'm not sure how the little critter got in there ( possibly from above as there is a vent there) anyway...I tried to catch it but it almost got out of the tub when I slid open the door...so now I'm wondering what would be the best way to trap it so it doesn't run out into my house ?... I can reach over the top of the shower doors...but I can' figure out how to get it into something Any ideas?

Under average conditions, how long does it take for the smell of cigarette smoke to disappear from clothes that are not washed or dry-cleaned? Also, is the smell of cannabis smoke easily distinguishable from that of ordinary cigarettes?

My sis-in-law has been battling fruit flies ever since my mother brought some produce from a fruit stand (long gone).. Anyway she's tried leaving vinegar out, water w/ soap.. everything..She's also been taking all food scraps and compost out of the house as soon as the meal is over, and has no fruit outside the refrigerator.

Any other tricks?

I discovered two earthworms (there may be more) in a juniper bonsai that I recently purchased. I know earthworms are good for plants in gardens, but are they good or bad for Juniper bonsai?

I know Junipers can easily suffer from "root rot", do earthworms help this or make it worse?

(The soil for my juniper drains very well and is composed of soil, bark pieces, brick pieces, and sand; and I water it about twice a week because I let it get a little dry between waterings, but not completely dried out. The plant is outside and receives indirect sunlight on a covered patio.)

I'm about to purchase a cord of firewood and now they offer two kinds: regular (with bark) and "barkless". Does anyone know of any disadvantages to the barkless wood? i.e. burns poorer, etc?

I removed about 13 feet by 3 feet of carpet in the living room. Directly underneath the carpet pad is 99% of the area covered with black tar (sticky) and small pieces of carpet pad stuck to it. The 1 %, I believe, is cement cause I used a utility knife to cut into it. Also, the other bedrooms and hallways do not have black tar glue beneath the carpet pad.
I had new carpets put in when I lst moved in 2001. The house is built in 1958.

The standard red beam laser pointers. I have an iBeam that is hooked up to my ipod. I was pointing at a cockroach that was jumping around and then it just stopped. I threw a shoe right next to it to see if it would move but it didn't.

I live in a neighborhood in a somewhat rural area. There is an area behind my house that is mostly woods but this area is surrounded by residential homes. Today I found a camoflage (?) tent behind obviously set up to kill something, it is within about 200 feet from my house. Is this legal? as i said it is near homes and if a shot were to go off in error in the wrong direction someone could be hurt.
If this is not legal who could I call???? Who could i call anyway, this concerns me.

I feel like going out there tonight and cutting the ties on the stupid tent.

OK, unusual situation here. I live alone, am 1/2 sick and have a very small income, I spend a lot of time on the puter, I have only a gas wall furnace so I am thinking about moving my TV and puter into my bedroom even maybe going to a twin bed for more space and just heating that room . hard to believe , but picture me living on a mountaintop all alone with no visitors for that is what it is like and I can use a small efficient space heater. I don't mind this at all and why should I pay to heat an entire house when I only use one room at a time. I have a very open frontroom dining room and kitchen with no way to shut them into smaller spaces and the cheapest way would be to move. You have to use your imagination unless you live alone and can picture this. I have no visitors and no guests !! I essentially live on a mountain top on a very low income ??? cheap house payment so it is the cheapest to stay here. Hope I have included all necessary info. I already wear hats, thermal clothing

There is Wenger and Victorinox. As I understand it, they are completely independent manufacturers of the same brand.

Can they really be the same brand?

Are there any other brand-name products of any kind with different, competing manufacturers?
