Use less water (ie don't run the sink the whole time you brush. Get water, turn off, do teeth, rinse brush, turn off water)
Low flow toilets.
No half loads in the washer.
Water your lawn little to not at all.
Don't wash your car as often.
You can also catch your rainwater from your downspout, store it, and then use it to water your lawn/plants.

Am i Calif with drought lingering on....and on....I use a 5gal bucket in the shower to catch nearly all the water wasted while I wait for it to get hot....I usually get 2 1/2 gal of water. I use this for plants or to flush the yellow down the toilet. I try to wait for 3 yellow uses then flush with the shower water. The other stuff is right now.....Also, use a gal jug in the kitchen to catch the water when you are waiting for it to get hot. This is ok for plants, or grass or rinsing things that dont need the hot water. The other Y Answers are great tips too.

Get a shut-off device for your shower and turn off the water while you soap up. Don't run water while you brush your teeth. If two people in your household need to use the toilet at the same time, don't flush after the first use, flush after the second one. Get a separate well and pump for irrigation. Make sure that you wash full loads of clothes and dishes.
