I have done a little rudimentary hand sewing way back in, 6th grade, even less on a machine. and I was bad at it. Except for hand sewing, my teacher once noted I had really nice stitches. Not that that means much.

Anyhow, now I'm in my 20s and REALLY want to learn to sew. I have looked up some sewing classes, but they usually specify that you own a PORTABLE sewing machine. I have no machine AT ALL, I did do a search and was wondering what people thought of this one. I am no Hello Kitty fan (so I'm not looking at this because I think it's "cute" - not at all.) BUT it seems efficient enough.

Otherwise I was going to go for a Singer or Janome model. I need something small and simple that will take me to and from class. However, I don't want to sacrifice what I need to learn for a "portable" ....So what do sewers think of this machine?

My goal would be to be able to design tops and things or home design, if possible.

HI, I get the greatest email for 50 and over and it has this heater that sounds great :Flat Panel Wall Heater with Remote by First Street ONline, If anyone would like to find it, I would like to know if it might be cheaper for me living alone than turning on the gas wall furnace I have. I'm really trying to cut cost on my very tight budget. I call it living on pennies. I will also attach the site but I know many don't like to click on sites thanks http://www.firststreetonline.com/product.jsp?id=73897&promotion=82394&WT.mc_id=82394

These are tiny little ants, only about 1mm in size, and they keep appearing all over the house. Sometimes there might be a dozen or so, but mostly they are just single. I notice them mostly on white backgrounds like the bath or sink, or cupboard doors, probably because they show up more. They don't appear to be harmful, just annoying, but I'm fed up with seeing them. I've tried spraying vinegar, (I don't like to use pesticides), and I put Vaseline along the gaps where I saw them going, but they still keep popping up. Anyone have any answers? I'd be really grateful!

I have moved house recently where there is a burglar alarm with the numbers 9450 but no brand name on the front panel. I know how to set the alarm as i was given the code by past owners but as i have just adopted a cat, i want to know if i could just set the door sensors and not the room sensors. I dont know what each zone is set at and there is no manual. The past owner doesnt have a clue, it wasnt put in by them. Any advice?

We have an ant problem in our house! We're looking for ways that we might be able to fix it before calling an exterminator. Well the main question is how do ant traps work and what are they? Oh and if you know of ways to get rid of ants then please say so!

We have sone serious issues with our landlords and tonight was the final straw when one of them screamed and yelled at me calling me a "f-ing fat stupid white trash hippy piece of sh#t. They have hired contractors who have deficated in our yard, called a neighber a f@ggot; illegally disposed of asbestos by dumping it in our yard (we called the EPA for that one); put holes in our walls, floors and ceilings; let the dogs in the building out; left our bakdoor open numerous times; come in while I'm in the shower; have never givenus notice let alonw 24 hrs notice; let a gas leak go unattended for 2 wks until the fire department had to come out; cut through our pipes so that we have been without cold water, hot water or either for as much as 3 days; people have gone through our things and we don't have any heat! I have contacted Community Housing and attorneys (as have the other 8 tenants in the building) but we always get different answers. Can someone please help us?

I am moving. I have three options. An apartment, A travel trailer, or A house.

An expensive high lined apartment with all the bells and whistles.
A travel trailer fairly new (the kind you go on the road with, option to buy it within a year and own a vacation home !).
A house as a rental, kinda old style, simple, not very snazzy.

Which would you choose and why?

I'm actually torn right now, the apartment is fun, the house is economical (maybe?), the travel trailer I would OWN.
The apartment is possible to lease longer but has no value after a year of payments, the house a possiblity to buy (long commitment.) therefore gaining with the payments but slowly, and travel trailer would be small and cramped but owned and capable of being used for ten more years as a vacation on wheels!

i was wondering if by covering a plant ' loosely ' in plastic when the temps dip to 36* at night if that plant generates some sort of heat to actually make it warmer in its tent than the actual air temparature ...i have a cactus i like to leave outdoors as long as possible since the days are still quite pleasant..( and he is a bear to move around)....so i cover him on "frosty" nights with a huge plastic bag and uncover him in the AM to let him enjoy the sun.. i was just wondering if the plant can make his heat in his little plastic "tent"...

Not sure which type of beetle they are. They are small, brown and can fly. We had an infestation in our kitchen last year, which we were able to eliminate after finding the nest in some old grain. But now they are appearing in my bedroom. I only usually see one in a fortnight, whereas in the kitchen we used to find at least 20 a day. And I can't locate a nest anywhere. I don't smoke and I don't keep food in my room. So where the heck are they coming from and how can I get rid of them?

My bedroom has humidity problems. Some mould but mainly smelly cloths on drawers, wardrobe, especially those touching the floor.Need to keep washing them every few months. This problem only occurs in the bedroom. The humidity level is at 90%. Do i need an extractor fan to improve ventilation (but double glazing already has trickle vents) or a dehumidifier? New purpose built flat, 13 years old.

My wife and I recently bought a home in Oklahoma. In our backyard we have found four burrows housing what I think are Oklahoma Brown Tarantulas. We have a five month old baby and I was wondering if we need to be concerned. Also, do tarantulas "infest" yards, and if so what can we do?

The shed is not used often - hence the wasps' ability to build at leisure. We are environmentalists and would prefer not to use chemicals or similarly drastic measures to get rid of the nest. We are hoping that someone knows about the wasps level of (in)activity in colder temperatures and will be able to tell us how to safely handle the nest this winter - even if we have to wait until it's 0C or colder. Thanks so much - we really want to tackle this and have the nest gone before next spring.

They are hanging in a covered porch, get indirect light that's pretty bright. They have been watered when their pots feel light (I figure when they are heavy, they are damp enough). **Please, no "I don't know" or similarly useless answers.... Thanks.
