Yes, I often see carpet in bathrooms, especially ones with shower rooms because people dry off in there rather than in the main bath by the vanities. Some people have rubber backed throw rugs they put down that are washable that they put down by their bath and shower if they have carpet or even slick stone or tile.

Toilet paper alternatives include baby wipes, preparation H wipes and other flushable wipes. In India and the Philippines I have seen little urns that get filled with water to wash oneself with and often people who came from those countries use them here. There are also many homes in the US that are equipped with bidets.

Yes, some bathrooms have carpet on the floor. If a bathroom does have carpet, the vast majority of them have a brand of indoor/outdoor carpet that can take the dampness or the abuse of getting wet without damage. My bathroom has tile(ceramic)floors and walls, and a throw rug(washable) on the floor.

we do not take our bath or shower on the floors, we have a bathtub(for baths or showers) or simply a shower stall in the bathroom(separated from the carpet), and a toilet, flush-able

and why would you want an alternative to toilet paper?
I use Charmin brand toilet paper and it feels so soft on my butt, I wouldn't want to go back to the days of magazines, newspapers, or leaves as a way to wipe my butt.. I actually carry my own roll of toilet paper with me when I travel......lol.....

Most bathrooms have solid floors (marble, tile, linoleum, vinyl). All public restrooms have hard floors that can be cleaned easily.

However, some (not most) homes put carpeting in the bathroom. Yes, some water gets splashed on the floor, but often a bathmat (a thick towel) is placed on the floor near the bathtub for you to step out onto. Many people use a bathmat or rug on their hard floor, to make it nice for bare feet.

Most Americans use toilet paper. (99.5%)

What eskie hinted at but didn't make clear was that those people in Asia use their hand and water. No wonder so many suffer from Delhi belly in India. Been there, done that and lost kilos.
The Romans, ever practical. used sea sponge on a stick dipped in water (and then of course rinsed). I think they were communal and not individual like a tooth brush.
Would save a lot of trees though!
