Someone shared this recipe on a list:

1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon borax
3/4 cup water

Stir everything together, until the sugar and borax dissolve. Then dip pieces of bread crust in it and put the crust where you see the ants.

The ants will swarm all over the baits and carry them back to their nests. You should see a decrease in the ant population within hours, though you might need a couple of days for them to all disappear.

I had an opportunity to test this during the summer. I can't use most ant baits and insecticides because I have cats who get into EVERYTHING. But they mostly left these baits alone. It was marvelous to not have to fight the ant population tooth and nail.

first thing you should do is take away their favorite snacks , which are sugar, honey , jams, crumbs of all kinds & fruit juices. Main thing is to keep kitchen counters free from any foodstuff, Next thing to do is find out the entrance to thier tunnel. Put black pepper in and around the opening to the tunnel. The ants will then carry this into the egg-laying queens nest, she will then move the ants out. If you have small children or pets try and corner this area off. This way you will be sure the pepper won´t harm their eyes. Ants sometimes stage a wet weather invasion of homes to escape the water logged nest . But they will leave of their own accord when the earth is dry outside & if they have no favorite snacks lying around they will search for food elsewhere
