There is a red headed woodpecker in my back yard pecking at a hole in a tree while a wren flits back and forth chirping. Are wrens and woodpeckers enemies?

The plate covering the external vent of our cooker,has come away and a small bird has got in.We've seen fly in and out,so we think it must be nesting ,the noise it makes is off putting,to say the least.I'm also concerned to the damage it may cause to the air vent and the bird may get into the kitchen. Any humane ideas to evict our unwanted guest{s}

As we all know Australia is in the middle of drought conditions and I would like to save more water where possible. Washing my hair in the shower wastes a lot of water. I have heard of a valve (or something like that) which can be attached to the showerhead so when you are lathering up you can turn the water off and when you turn it on again the water is the required temperature with no adjustments necessary. Does anyone know where I can get one of these things?

I know typically it is recommended to sponge the mold off with a water/bleach solution. Can I use something else? Perhaps water and vinegar? Will that be effective?

I have learned two ways to prepare a garden.

Which do you think will provide the better yield?

1.) Using a shovel to lift one clump of dirt at a time, removing all the unwanted roots by crushing the soil so it is loose, and then dropping the soil back down?

2.) Rototill the soil; adding root poison and fertilizer additives?

I much prefer the softer tone of incandescent bulbs, but I would like to save energy for environmental reasons as well as economy. The only energy-saving bulbs I have tried all emit a horrid white light, even when used with a coloured lampshade.
