I know typically it is recommended to sponge the mold off with a water/bleach solution. Can I use something else? Perhaps water and vinegar? Will that be effective?

The main thing is to get it off. The vinegar water will get it off, I just don't know if it will kill the mold spores. You can go to a hardware or home improvement store and look in the paint department and they should have something to apply to kill the mold. Good luck and Happy Easter.

Kilz works to cover, but unless you get rid of all future humidity, mold will always come back. Your best bet is wiping it down with bleach water every time it starts to show up again. That is really the only way to kill the mold. I have the same problem and just wipe it down every time I clean my shower & tub (approx every 10-14 days). I give it a quick wipe regardless if I see mold or not and it always looks clean. Lots of luck!
