The lights on our garage door opener no longer turn off. When you press the button on the wall mount, you can hear that there's something in the garage door opener trying to do something, but nothing's happening. The lights stay on. They even stay on, instead of flashing, when you go across the safety sensor.

What should we look at inside the unit itself to try to fix it? It's not that old of an opener; we really don't want to replace it.

I've heard that the On Demand WH will save me money in the long run. What kind of matinence issues would come w/ an On Demand set up? Is there a disivantage to the On Demand, out side of it being more expensive?

There has been this horrific smell for about a week now, we assumed that it was a dead animal somewhere. Any way we went searching to see where the smell came from, cut down weeds trimed bushes, and found a plastic bag with another bag inside. It was covered with flies and magets. I don't want to move it because I don't know what's in it. The bag is big enough to hold any animal and or a small child. The inside bag or bags are white ( can't see through) and the top layer bag is thick and clear.

We live in a large, old apartment complex, and we get VERY hard water. The stains show up on the shower walls within a week, and I'm mostly concerned about skin problems for my 2 year old, who never had eczema before and is now getting patches of dry, peeling skin on her face.

We've tried talking to building management, and we were returned with "there is nothing we can do". We don't want to move just for the hard water, it's a lovely apartment other than that problem.

Is there anything we can install inside the apartment to soften the water?

my uncle clogged the toilet, and i forgot that it was clogged and went to the bathroom. i scooped out my feces with a shovel (which was nauseating) and then tried to plunge. i flushed the toilet again, and it was still clogged. the toilet is now filled with brown, murky liquid. did i use the plunger correctly? and are there any quick, inexpensive solutions?

Two years ago my lawnmower broke down and I never replaced it. The problem is that the three gallon gas-can I used to fill up my lawnmower with, still has gasoline in it.

I rent a house, so I'm looking for a cheep fix here. When I moved in 5 months ago and the water had a health drip at the time, now it is at a constant drissle. The worst part is that its the hot water and the water heater is running all the time to keep it warm.
Please don't answer with something telling me to just tell my landlord, if I can fix things myself I don't like to bother him. That way when something big comes up I'm not that annoying tennant that is always complaining.
Thanks!

Yesterday I was cutting grass and my riding lawnmower started going off. I can turn it on and it runs. But when I put it into gear and start moving (even with the mowing deck NOT engaged) it goes off. Sometimes I can drive it for 3 foot, sometimes for 30 foot, sometimes not at all. I can press the clutch real quick to kick it out of gear and it will then stay on. Know what this might be? Also is there a rule of thumb as far as how fast to put the motor when in a particular gear? Thanks in advance.

Roof was coated about 6 months ago with alumminum with fibers. It did not help. I think it was oil based coating by Kool Seal. I am a widow on a fixed income and cannot afford a new roof. There are no loose or damaged shingles.

The tree bent in the wind but it did not break. However there is a crack about 8 inches above the base that is approx 3 inches wide and 6 inches long. I do not want it to be damaged by disease or weather. Can I apply a wrap or some kind of sealant to save the tree? It is probably 10 years old and I would hate to loose it.

I can not believe it is possible that a central air unit can last over 30 years but mine has (knock on wood)...I had a tech service it recently and he said I was living on borrowed time and would have to replace the unit soon...Could it be possible he is just telling me this so I will fork out the money to have it replaced? Should I just wait and see what happens? He said they usually don't last past 20 years!! Opinions please...

Due to my work schedule, I can only clear my driveway when I get home (around midnight). I was wondering if anyone makes mufflers for my Snow King snow thrower so I don't wake up half the neighborhood. Thanks!

I live in an apt. that is around 5 years old, since I have moved in it seems as if the ceiling fans, walls, and ceiling collect a blackish dust (it is quite a bit). The vents are high, near the ceiling fans and you can see where the dust collects and even seems to run a little from the vent. It accumulates so fast.... Is this something I can control and is it a health risk?

I own the airspace in my 2nd floor of a 2-floor condo. Pulling up the wall-to-wall carpeting, I find that the terrazzo floor is cracked from one end of the unit to the other and probably out the door as well.
If notified, would my condo association, in Florida, be responsible to repair the floor and check the structure's safety?

Just bought a home with a septic system. Obviously, I know that the bacteria level in the system has to be maintained, but what I'm wondering is if the household brand RidX is any better, the same, or worse than other brands that you can buy via the web? All they all pretty much the same or is there a preference that anyone has? Any stories behind your preferences?

Earlier today, my husband replaced the blower wheel in our dryer. It seemed to work fine, but when I checked on the load we were drying, I noticed that the dryer itself was VERY, VERY hot. You couldn't even put your hand on it, so you can image what the heat inside was like. My husband checked to see if maybe the exhaust hose was kinked or blocked, but it's fine and is blowing out ridiculously hot air.

Any suggestions on what could be causing this? We've never had this problem before.

827 gazillion points to anyone who can figure this out.
