Roof was coated about 6 months ago with alumminum with fibers. It did not help. I think it was oil based coating by Kool Seal. I am a widow on a fixed income and cannot afford a new roof. There are no loose or damaged shingles.

this is a product that we have been using in N.M. we have tried everything but this was the one that worked it bonds to everything and drops the temp on the roof saves on your bills

I owned a roofing company for 13 years, suckers are born every minute and there are many scam artist that will have you believe (cool seal), the fibrous,rubbery white/grey mixture you roll on is BUNK, BULLSHIT ! First of all, asphalt eats thin rubber up. Cool Seal is meant for trailers that already have similar roofs to begin with. Second, shingles move, expand, contract and nails pop....due to various weather conditions. When this happens, that "cool seal", is not going to stop that buckle, or nail pop. That's why you wind up with a leak. 3rd reason, Read the label, cool seal is reapplied throughout the life of the roof FOREVER. That means YOU, or someone has to manually get up on the roof every couple years FOREVER. Does this sound like something anyone wants to do? Does this sound very smart? No. Take out a small loan, look up some government grants, or local neighborhood grants and get your roof done right. Re Shingle, or metal, but cool seal is not the answer.

It's not common practice to use a roof coating over an entire asphault shingle roof. I don't think there is much benefit in that. People will use it as a temporary patch to leaking areas. Is the roof leaking or do you just want to know how to extend the life of the shingles?

No coating is available for asphalt shingles. They must be covered by more of the same or removed then replaced. What you are talking about having been done is a fly by night way to "paint" your roof. It is never going to be water tight. You should go ahead and hire a reputable contractor to do the job right before you have leaks which cause more damage.

Jean the "coating" your talking about sounds like a scam to me. If your having water come in, a coat of paint... Silver or not isn't going to take care of it.
I know in our area there are places that will offer help to seniors or persons on limited income with home repair issues. Call some of the social service deprt in your area and see what they can do.
Some local TV stations have on of those Help Guys where they'll fix you provided they can do a heart to heart story for the 6 PM news..
