I recently looked at buying a home a little bit outside of town. Homes in this area are out of the service area of our natural gas provider, so the homes have a 1,000 gallon propane tank buried in the yard. The propane tank gets topped up monthly as part of a service. My question is.... Is propane for home hot water and heating (and cooking) much more expensive.... roughly about the same.....or much less expensive...than natural gas. I am unfamiliar with propane used this way; should I be concerned?

Trying to weigh my options, acting or not acting on the impulse to try. Only problem is its union so I'd have to pay dues and work my way up. But thats also the bright side. The other bad side is weather, but do any carpenters around have any opinions on the matter?

Last month, my neighbors wanted less than $250.00 to replace a small portion of an ajoining fence. I agreed and even oferred the man cash which he refused until after the work was done.

We were initially allowed to help install the posts but he chose to put the pickets up while we were away so he could install the smooth side of the fence towards his yard (the way his wife wanted it to look).

Anyhow, we received the $505.00 bill six days ago. I don't understand the disparity between the quote and the actual bill and am trying to look into it. This morning his wife confronts my teen daughter demanding payment and now I get the feeling like something isn't quite right.

What would you do? Would you pay it without question so they would leave your child alone? Would you ask for receipts in order to verify the cost? Would you pay the original agreed cost until you could verify the actual cost?

Any advice would be helpful.

I am replacing and relocating my tub faucet. I will be extending the copper lines slightly and connecting them up to a Delta sink faucet which I am using as a tub filler. How should I terminate the copper so that I can connect to the Delta faucet? Should I use the connection lines that I would use with a sink faucet also?

So, there is air comming out of my vents, but it ioos comming out slow, and is not very cold. it's 84 degrees in my house, and is over 95 outside! help me before I melt!!!! PLEASE

My oil was a touch low and I accidentally put two cycle engine oil in my lawnmower. I didn't put that much in, maybe an ounce and I caught the mistake before starting the mower. Will changing the oil remedy the problem, or does it not really make a difference?

I've heard opposing suggestions here. Some say it's better to keep the AC running at a constant setting, and this will lead to lower energy bills. Others say to turn it up a few degrees when you leave, and lower the temperature when you're home (however, they argue that the AC works harder to bring the temperature back down). I run my AC at 72 degrees, and when I'm not home I put it on 75. Should I just leave it at 72?

It's a pull/push type faucet. I accidently broke the plastic knob. I tried Wal-mart, but can't find a spare part. Does anyone know a place that I can buy it? Thanks.

I have a few questions, please answer as many as you can:

1. How much should a damp proof course cost for the downstairs of a 2 bed terraced (2 rcptn rooms + kitchen), plus a chimney breast upstairs?

2. What is the BEST method? Chemical injection or DPC lining / sheet?

3. If walls are adjoining (9" brick, no cavity), can cost be shared with neighbours or will they need their side of the walls doing?

4. Do walls get replastered up to the ceiling or just to the line where it's installed?

5. Would a boiler need removing from the wall for DPC to be laid? It's within 1m from the floor.

6. Would it save money to have the floor relaid, other walls replastered and plugs sockets & radiators moving at the same time the DPC is laid?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS :)

Could it be the door was left slightly ajar in the humid weather we are having.

Would turning the unit off for a few hours solve the problem?

My fiance's father has a cottage up north and has a basement in this self-built home. The business only has secure cement patio stones on top of levelled dirt as a floor, with carpet over top.

It's been like this for about 10 + years I believe.

It has a horrid smell to the basement and the only temporary relief is to place a dehumidifier in the basment until it fills.

What can I do for a quick fix? I have friends coming to stay in this cottage and it smells horribly in the basement!!
