We bought it at a flea market but the chiming is off ie; 12 0'clock chimes 5 times. It has a key to wind it but not sure how many turns I should give it.

I have an old clock (made in 1876) that is like this. You need to set the hands to what time the clock is chiming. So in your example move the hour hand to 5. When you want to change the time you have to run it through manually by moving the minute hand and letting the clock chime at each hour.

The clock doesn't know where the hour hand is. Only how many times the minute hand has gone around.
