Last night my Air conditioner stopped working. The unit is just over one year old. I live in a brand new condo, and the unit is two weeks out of waranty. I checked the breaker, and nothing was tripped. the digital unit is set to cool, and 72. the humidifier is set to 65%. The outside unit's fan is spinning, and I can feel the inside unit sucking in air where the filter goes (which I just changed after the ac stopped working.) So, there is air comming out of my vents, but it ioos comming out slow, and is not very cold. it's 84 degrees in my house, and is over 95 outside! help me before I melt!!!! PLEASE

checked outside for the fuse. there is a small black box. There is a plastic tap to pull out, and on the other side are two copper conductors. once this is removed the panel can come off, inside there are four wires, all of which are hooked up properly. there is no sign of a fuse in there anywhere though.

so, I flipped it off for a few hours, and then back on, still no love... same thing, air, but it is not cold. I called the company that installed it, and they can not make it out til Saturday!!!! So, it's gonna be a sweaty few days! I looked inside the condenser and nothing looked to frosty. If it was, I figured a few hours in the near 100 degree might thaw it out.

GRRRRRRR... it's hot

here are the possible problems...1 dirty a-coil and its freezing over 2 low on freon and unit is freezing over..3 bad compressor.4 bad capacitor for compressor(shiny oval thing with wires connected to the top of it) 5 wires burnt off where they connect to compressor...since you said the outside units fan was running this means your thermostat is good and you have power...if the inside unit is not freezing up then that only leaves the compressor not running...check the a-coil and make sure it is not froze over..

did you try shutting down the unit for a few hours?
if it cools right after thaw out then I would say topping off of the freon level is in order. Unless you are a certified HVAC tech, you need to get a guy out there. the kind of freon you need can't be bought by the public like r134a. These newer models have electronics that can be tricky to diagnose. You need to get the guys out there that you would call if it was under warranty.

We had the same problem and it was the outside fuse- not the inside one. Make sure you have checked all breakers.

If your warranty has just expired, many companies will honor it- ask them. One year is usually just a general guideline- if it's a good company, they will honor it.
