Decorating & Remodeling - March 2007

It's my daughter's first birthday, and I was wondering what little things should I do to my house before her b-day. I already painted the bathroom and put new vinyl titling down. My kitchen is my main concern. The flooring is missing some tile, my walls are different colours tan and white, but not perfect lines, cabinets hang off the wall a little and the countertops need to be replace..in two weeks..lol. Crazy me, What should I accomplish first?

I'm thinking of getting a twin bed to save space in my new room that I'll be moving to. Right now I have a Full sized one. I'm just asking what are the good and bad points in having a twin bed? I'm 14 years old and I'd rather not fall of the bed if it's too narrow. (Lol.)

And are twin beds less expensive?

I've tried looking for an Espresso Wood Stain at HomeDepot, Sherwin Williams, Lowes and have not had any luck. Can anyone recommend a store that carries this color wood stain (espresso). Thanks in advance.

Without building any walls.

I've thought about painting one part one color and the other part another color, but how do I separate it? I don't want light blue and then a sudden change to light green or whatever... Or is there some way to add a small bar-like divider that isn't permanent? Or how can I paint two different colors without a sudden change...Any suggestions please!!

My kitchen counter tops.............and my bathroom counter tops..........need a makeover, but I can't afford new tops right now. What are good low cost ways I can give them a makeover? I have painted my living room/dining room a golden yellow color and painted ceiling and crown molding a shade lighter, kind of light yellow. The crown molding was not wood but white painted molding. I would like to antique the crown molding to break up what seems to me too much yellow. Although no one else seems to think it is too yellow. Can I mix the stain of my oak woodwork (golden oak stain) with either water or glaze and brush on molding then wipe off? What else can I do?

I have washed down my cabinets w/murphys wood soap. scrubbed off stuck on food-etc.-ick!.Before refinishing, or refurbishing cabinets, can I Oil my cabinets with something to make them look better until I have time and money to do something more permanent? What about the scratch cover oil?

my boyfriend an i have just started to buy a house, we shoud be in it in about a month... we have our bedroom set and nothing else...no dishes, no towels no furniture...we have a tv for the front room, but i gave all my furniture to my old roomate when i moved in with my boyfriends mom to save to buy a house..(she needed the furniture worse than me!!) I dont want it back.... but i want to have at leat half way decent things in my house.... we are on a very tight budget with very little to spend....can yo find decent couches and other furniture for cheap anywhere???? yard sales? good will..... any ideas? need a whole house full with only a few hundred dollars left to my name...fridge, stove, washer dryer!!!! everything
