I have washed down my cabinets w/murphys wood soap. scrubbed off stuck on food-etc.-ick!.Before refinishing, or refurbishing cabinets, can I Oil my cabinets with something to make them look better until I have time and money to do something more permanent? What about the scratch cover oil?

you can buy a refinishing product that you wipe on and it actually softens the original finish and self levels to form a finish like new. most hardware stores or paint stores sell this product. be sure to wear good rubber gloves.i was a cabinetmaker for 22 years and a few times while refinishing cabinets or furniature i have used this process when the customer didn't want to spend a lot on the project.

I think oil attracts grime but that would give the wood a nice shine. Try to find something that doesn't build up over time. We refinished our cabinets & it was a lot of work but we loved the outcome. Good luck w/ your project !

You could use mineral spirits, it doesn't turn rancid like an oil would. Good luck!
