Most everyone has made great suggestions.
Hide the problems areas and distract eyes away from the problem areas.
A colorful table cloth in your color scheme. Dollar store silk flowers in a vase will brighten things up.
Some colorful inexpensive place mats on the counter to set up the beverages as was recommended.
A pretty throw rug over the missing tiles.
Use a color scheme that goes with your kitchen and you can use after the party.
A Bunch of helium balloons on the Birthday Girls Chair and the Mail box or the front of the house for the guests.
Cover throw pillows for the sofa in a bright color to perk up the LR if you feel that you need it. Just do things that you can use afterward.
The table is the center piece of a first birthday party. So concentrate on it.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY GIRL"!
(None of us had everything in the beginning. You acquire with time. So please do not worry about it.)

If you can put pretty little rug mats on the floor to cover the missing tiles, that will help. Put a few pretty place mats on the counter and put the Soda, paper cups, cutlery, an bucket of ice or what ever you are going to use, on them. Get a real nice scented candle and put that on the stove, And if anything, just say we are in the middle of remodeling.

Id suggest maybe having the party at an outside place. Ive found if you rush doing things in your house, you wont get it all done, or you may end up making matters worse. Id suggest a kids theme place like Chucky Cheese, maybe Mcdonalds, or even renting out a pavilion somewhere, if the weather is permitting. You may find it being a little bit more inexpensive going that route, instead of rushing to get the home repairs done plus planning the party in your home. Going this route gives your more time to plan out what remodeling you would like to do, and also leaves someone else to do the clean up:)

Place fresh flowers in the kitchen area and fill it with balloons in pink. You Can even tie small flowers to the balloon strings.your baby and the decorations will be the main focus and not your floor. buy brown sugar Quaker oatmeal and make a bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes. You are not going to believe the homier smell it leaves. Sweet and soft..just like a 1 year old!

Painting is always a good easy fix. I usually go with a nuetral color. It will make the room look brighter and clean. Then after the painting is done then worry about cabnits hanging off.Use a drill and hang them back up. Get new hardware for your kitchen cabnits that pretty cheep, also even paint them if they are yucky. That will help.

hon, you should relax a little. it's your baby girl's first birthday, not her prom or graduation by any means. i mean, you would have to fix the house sooner or later right? but take some time and go slow. the house can wait. just dust a little here and a little there.

Cover the whole house in "Happy Birthday" crepe paper. Hide the faults that probably only bother you, chill out and have a great time.

you know what - who cares? it's your kid's first birthday party. throw it, enjoy it, relax. who's uptight? certainly not your one year old. your friends? if they are, then they aren't your friends. relax, be happy.
