Thinking of replacing my kitchen with the varde range from Ikea as can get some 2nd hand from eBay and just buy the odd bit new - wondering if anyone has it and how durable is it to everyday wear and tear as I have 3 kids! was it easy to put together and did it look nice?

I'm buying an existing single-family house (3 bedroom, 2 bath). I'm thinking about repainting, changing the carpet, etc. Could I find help?
Should I hire an interior designer or read through some books?

We are hoping to do some work in our house and we need to employ electricians, builders, plumbers etc. There's not much work to be done but it is complex enough that neither I nor my boyfriend feel able to take it on ourselves. Unfortunately we are unable to find anyone who can recommend suitable companies. Does anyone know where i can find such a directory? Or has anyone worked with any particularly good building companies? Thanks.

I've removed all the wallpaper with a steamer but there is still residue left over. I've removed some of it with TSP and hot water. How thorough must I be? One wall looks great. Another wall looks very different. it's discolored in certain areas, I think it may be glue residue. I mean, if I'm at the point where I hold the steamer to the wall and I use a putty knife and scrape and scrape and I can barely scratch anything off, is that good enough? As long as the texture is smooth, is that enough? Someone suggested that I need to use oil based primer or the glue will cause the paint to chip off, is that so?

It's on the smaller side, the carpet is a dark mauve color, the furniture is white, and one wall has a extremely large window on it. Also, what color comforter should I get? I'm moving back in after graduating from college, so it's time for my room to get an overhaul. The room has always had pink painted walls and pink flower wallpaper. I'm defintely over the pink. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

We have removed some tile and there is quite a bit of mortar or thinset underneath...approx 1/8 to 1/4 inch in some places. We can chip it away with a chizzle but that takes alot of time. We can grind it away with a grinder but that is messy.
