maybe if you would want to tone it down a little you could paint the top half of the walls white and then use some decorative trim board(fairly solid for putting hooks into) to seperate the white and yellow. I would also help him make some large stencil-shapes out of clear contact paper so they could be temporarily adhered to the white part of the wall and painted with the yellow. They have alot of Scooby Doo fabrics at craft shops and you could make some toss pillows, a bean bag and curtains to go with some bold solid colored beddings. Maybe some Chalkboard paint in the corner with a small desk for coloring/drawing and some hooks in the trim on walls in that area for hanging up the little masterpieces. (attach 2 lg. paperclips to either end of a string elastic cord to secure to pictures to be hung on hooks to dry or display). I would also paint the dividing trim board white as well as the ceiling.

I also have a four year old son and he is a tornado with legs. This month its Star Wars, last month it was Hot Wheels, before that it was Bob the Builder and Rescue Heroes.. You may not want to do anything too permanent in case Scooby is just a phase. Currently, my son's room is a medium blue with dark grey drapes. He is not in school yet (until he's 5) and doesn't need to be up at the crack of yellow sunrise everyday. I'd go with hanging pictures/ posters and shadow boxes that can be changed up every now and again. Keep options for 'theme' open and flexible. I'd rather do a monthly 20 minute art/deco swap than have to paint over and over. Good luck.

If he likes Scooby Doo, then why dont you paint a large picture on the wall of the van and the characters etc? Yellow is a lovely warm colour and will go with anything so yes great.

I would have to disagree with painting Scooby on the wall. His tastes will change as he gets older. Yellow is a great color for a little guy but I recommend a nice soft yellow that will allow you to use more vibrant accent colors.
It would be great to use Scooby in some of the accents in the room. A scooby pillow and a framed poster perhaps. Or maybe a Scooby lamp. You could also accent with blue. It's fun to make blue jean pillows out of old pairs of jeans. You can get them at second hand shops. Use the seat of the pants with the pockets still on them. Then he can put stuff in the pockets.
Don't go crazy with borders...you'll hate yourself for it later when you have to spend all day on a ladder to get it down.
But maybe create a little "tent" area in a corner of his room with a dowel hung wall to wall to create a triangle in the corner. Then find an old Scooby sheet and hang that on the dowel to create a little tent-like area that he can hide and play in. It will be good for hiding toy mess also. You could make a game out of cleaning the room and hiding toys in the tent. Also it would be easy to get one of those little small square ottomans that he can keep his toys in and also use as a seat in his tent. Mayve you could wrap that in blue jean material too. You may be able to find those in a craft shop or hobby shop and put it together yourself with wheels and all.

My gf and I were just talking about how great it would be to have a Lord of the Rings or Hobbit themed room for a child. It is a story that will open their minds and imagination and has limitless possiblities. If you are familiar and a fan of the stories this may be a great idea. Childrens books in general can have some great ideas for creating stimulating environments for kids.

hi,
this is a great project for you and for him.
he likes the Scooby Doo cartoons great try to make the head bored look like the mean machine or a grope picture of the gang yes to colors of the mean machine van as part of the room. yellow is a good color for the room but not the hole room. and maybe not a bright yellow but something in that range. instead of just pictures of Scabby try to make them look like film on the wall.

If he likes yellow, then of course it's an ok color!
I would do the trim brown to create an eclectic mood then decorate with old cartoons, kind of a retro thing. You can frame old comic book covers, etc....
this room sounds fun and I love the idea!!

We are from the country and John Deere is real popular. It would be so cute! I am the mother of 3 girls and they would love it if I would let them have that as a bedroom theme. The colors in John Deere are yellow and green.

You could paint a sun mural on the wall, to go with it and make a mobile . A country farm yard scene would be nice,Paint a tractor, Haystack ,horse, hens, etc.
