I live in southern Mississippi and an apartment like that would probably run about 600-700 dollars a month. But, before Hurricane Katrina you could get it a lot cheaper (my first apartment was a 2 bed 2 bath townhouse for $450 a month) but since the storm prices on real estate went way up and is slowly coming down. Have you tried Wells Fargo for a mortgage. That's who I have my house financed with, and they have been great so far.
