Decorating & Remodeling - January 2007

I have to make a 3ft centerpiece for a table for our churchs auction. the theme is "a world of pure imagination" willy wonka style and I am looking for suggestions. They would like it more elaborate versus a bunch of candies glued on sticks for they will auction it off and would like one to be able to utilize it. I dont know how many people have a candy theme going on in their homes, so that is why I would like to incorporate mabye like a golden ticket and some candies but need help with the elaborate part of it. We have to recarpet our living room. It's about 5x4 meters. I can't find a website that will give me a quote, so in your experience/opinion, how much should it cost (we're not talking Oriental carpets here by the way). We'd be fitting it ourselves also. Or do you have any links to a website that wil give a quote?

I am just wondering what the best way to clean mini blinds is. I can't detach them from the window, I've tried sparying them down with cleaner and then wiping them, but it doesn't do anything but make the blinds look even more dirty.

I've seen women on tv with completely girly offices; pink filing cabinets and all kinds of office supplies in fun girly designs and I'd love to incorporate those things into my office at home and make it a more fun place to be. Hey, if I have to be in there paying bills and sorting paperwork I at least want to like looking at my surroundings!

okay i have some really exotic wood milled into 2 by 4s. Lychee wood from hawaii and also indonesia and china. I have milled these into 2 by 4s now i have to Tongue and groove 3500 sq ft of 2 by 4's . and advice on tongue and grroving the ends to fit together when i put the planks down.

But I don't want boots cluttering up the entryway (they can go in the closet) - what else could I put in there? I thought a fake plant, but that's so lame. There is no incoming sunlight. The area is roughly 3 feet square and 3 feet deep. Creative ideas, anyone????

When I was shopping for furniture a couple years ago, I saw these great armchairs. They are much bigger than a regular armchair, but smaller than a love seat. The seat of the chair was also much deeper than normal, making the seat perfect for curling up in.

The store that sold them is no longer around, and I can't seem to find them anywhere else. Has anyone else seen these chairs that I'm talking bout? If so, please tell me where you saw them, especially if you've found them online.

I'm renting a 1920's house with two-tone sage green walls in the loving room. The trim around the floor and the doorways are darker. I also have no door to my bedroom (not standard size anyway). The carpet is biege berber matching the loveseat. Now, my questions are these...

1) What color / style should I do for the window treatments? I'd like to add more colors and not look like I'm color blind.

2) Sould I put the curtain rod to my bedroom in the living room going in or in the bedroom going out?
