Is there a standard or general rule of thumb for the spacing of recessed lights? My room is 10x20, and has a ceiling fan with light directly in the center of the room. I'm keeping the fan and light. I'd like to add recessed lights but need to know -
1) How many should I install?
2) How far apart from each other should they be?
3) How far from the wall should they be?
4) What size dia. & wattage should I use?

My bedroom is in the NE section of my home so I have placed my bed on a north wall but, this positions also places me above a garage, between 2 doorways, and facing two large windows . Is this good placement or should I move it to a different section. or what would the cures be.

I was varnishing a door and some of the varnish must have spilled onto the laminate flooring. I walked through it and over the floor. How can i get this off?

It's like pegboard without the pegs. Less like a wood, more like super-heavy duty cardboard. Anyone know what it is called?

This is for the kitchen...We are going to paint the walls a rich tan called "cashmere". The cabinets are being stained a deep red cherry color and the floors are bamboo that have the same color as the cabinets as well as dark striations in it. We are looking at doing a corian counter top with a beige theme. All the appliances are black.

The kitchen is large and open and the flooring is going into the adjacent room that will be painted a chocolate color, this is a game room/family room and it is also very large.

So the question is, what do you think about painting the trim in the kitchen BLACK? we really want some input on this. the rest of the house has cashmere paint and WHITE trim. The family room will be chocolate with white trim. we have been debating every aspect of this kitchen for months and it is getting tiresome.

We have brushed nickle hardware if that means anything to you and lots of windows.

I am trying to make a shelving unit for my dvds and cds. Instead of shelves I wanted to use dowel sticks to hold them. My problem is that when put together the top is the correct width and the bottom is correct. The middle however goes outward and when I try to attach the dowel sticks, with screws, across, the screws do not attach them to the sides. They continue to turn even with a drill. They never tighten and just pop out. What do I do?

The item I want to cover is a worn bankers chair. It is pleather and damaged. I don't know how to make a pattern. I don't want to make it too small. How much extra should be added to allow for curves, etc.? Any tips would be very helpful.

Can I just describe it like that?
I want to make it sound like there is that cautionary sign and the cones.

I am writing a story and there is a part where the character comes across a passage where there is wet cement and he can't get through. How would I describe this in a visual way?

i am thinking of re-decorating my flat again. one of the bedrooms was repainted late last year, but as the room is going to be my daughter's i want to completely change the colour. eg its a creamy beige, but want to paint it a pale pink. the second bedroom needs repainting, although it was done a year or two ago. eg its a creamy beige colour sort of too, but want to paint it blue for my son. both bedroom walls are in good condition. smooth surfaces etc. what sort of paint should i use. eg vinyl silk, emulsion etc and how many coats?

i also want to paint my small bathroom and kitchen, and perhaps later my living room. the living room is fairly new in the way of paint. eg a few years ago, but the other two above haven't been done for a long time. what sort of paint is best for these rooms, and should a paint brush or small roller be used for small parts/crevices?

any advice would be appreciated!!

I have a small room that's baby blue on the walls and white on the ceiling. It feels too lite to me and not very welcoming. What are some nice color combinations so I'll feel more at home. Also I'm wanting to take up the linoleum tiles and replace it with carpet. If possible I'd like to keep the ceiling white. What colors would look good with that? The only furniture I have in the room is a bed with blue sheets, skirt, and comforter along with a computer desk and dresser that are wood toned and a small tv cart that's black. Thanks.
