Recessed Lighting Question?

Is there a standard or general rule of thumb for the spacing of recessed lights? My room is 10x20, and has a ceiling fan with light directly in the center of the room. I'm keeping the fan and light. I'd like to add recessed lights but need to know -
1) How many should I install?
2) How far apart from each other should they be?
3) How far from the wall should they be?
4) What size dia. & wattage should I use?

There is no rule on how many or wear to put them..If it were me I would place 8 cans four on each 20 foot wall. decide on how many you want to install them space them evenly I would say with a 10 ft wide room they sh
