I have a small room that's baby blue on the walls and white on the ceiling. It feels too lite to me and not very welcoming. What are some nice color combinations so I'll feel more at home. Also I'm wanting to take up the linoleum tiles and replace it with carpet. If possible I'd like to keep the ceiling white. What colors would look good with that? The only furniture I have in the room is a bed with blue sheets, skirt, and comforter along with a computer desk and dresser that are wood toned and a small tv cart that's black. Thanks.

Hmmmmm.. My suggestion would to decide first what theme I wanted the room to feel like.... Beachy? Pastels? Girly? Autonomous? Then I'd look at some magazines and check out photos of color combinations and rooms that appeal to me.

Next, I'd pick out a base color to "wash" the room in (sorry, but I'd paint the ceiling the same color as the walls - it's very "in" right now and I personally love the effect) and consider pieces and accents in two other colors. I'd finish it off with a few subtle patterns, darker contrast colors in linens, curtains and pillows...

The reason the room feels too lite to you and not very welcoming (I'm assuming the not very welcoming means not a warmth-filled room) is because most blues are what is consideered a cold color.

I would try and give the room more depth by adding a dark chocolate brown with some hints of sandy beige here and there and adding some decorative objects in brushed stainless, like lamps, curtain rods, vases, doorknobs, etc.... and you can keep the white ceiling too! Or you can do what's really a trend right now... use the same color as the walls, only use it in a lighter hue... 3 tones lighter. This will also make your small room look much bigger... If you leave the ceiling white, you may get the impression that the ceiling is lower than it really is. Blue is a good choice for a small room, as it makes the room appear larger and blue is also good in a bedroom as it is a restful color.

You might want to check out Sico's virtual decorator... I've included a link for you at the end. You can upload your own photos or just use the ones they have. That'll give you an idea of some color schemes you might like. Do keep in mind however that for complete color harmony, you'll need to use 3 colors: 1 dominant one (the walls) 1 medium one the trim, moldings, etc.) and one accent color (decorative accents, curtains, cushions, etc.). And no, don't count your white ceiling as a color. When talking about paint, white is NOT considered a color but the absence of all color and black is not a color but the combination of ALL colors. That is why black and white match with any colors. Oh... and every room needs a touch of black to ground all the colors.

What color makes YOU feel happy or comfortable? I know a lot of color-psychologists say that yellow should make "people" feel happy and green should make people fee comfort, but what makes YOU happy or comfortable? Go with the color that does the thing for you that you most want in a bedroom.....for me, I would want comfort in a bedroom.

Anyway, that is my humble opinion.

I like Deep Dark Purple with the hint of blue in it or like midnight blue, but when you want to paint it lighter again it will take allot more paint.
