I have 2 end tables and a coffee table that are about 16 years old. They are cherrywood Chippendale tables. Could I strip off the dark finish and refinish it in a medium pecan-like stain? Is cherry always stained dark because it is an ugly wood? Would the Chippendale style look odd in a pecan finish? I'm trying to combine a traditional style with kind of a Tuscan-rustic style, would this sort of move me in that direction? It's really not an option to replace the tables just yet. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Where do you find the best buys and quality for living room furniture? We've gone to Bob's Discount Furniture, any better ones out there?

silk but which would be durable enough to cover a chair in? I'd like it to be a curry-colored silk which would match my living room. Mmmmmm, yummy.

I have a rather tiny entrance area in my apartment which desperately needs redecoration. The floor is light oak, so I guess that yellowy tones won't go with that too well. The doors are off-white/cream and I won't change them. Any suggestions?

i know i've already asked this question a couple of months ago, but i'm still unsure; when painting furniture a white colour to then sand back to give it a distressed look, what paint finish should i use? i'm not sure if i should get, i.e., matt, low sheen, semi gloss, etc. some advice would be appreciated.
thanks.

Hi there!

I'll be moving into a new 3 bedroom home with a lounge kitchen. I have nothing, meaning no furniture, beds, kitchen stuff, carpets curtains and it will need to decorated too. I really am starting from scratch.

So my questiom is this. How much will it cost to make it livable? I won't be doing the decorating or carpeting, I'll have to pay some one to do that. So all together with labour and material costs, also I'm keeping in mind that I won't buy the cheapest carpets and wallpaper. So a reasonable cost would be great if someone could give me some ideas. I'll be living on the Gold Coast by the way.

Cheers!

Looking to paint my living room - small room, only about 15x15, 2 small windows. Not a whole lot of natural light, but there are 4 recessed lights in the ceiling. Was planning on a deep orange, but am afraid that won't work with my honey oak entertainment unit. Couch is dark brown, floor is undecided. The room partially opens to the kitchen, which is a deep red/burgandy. White isn't an option, and I don't want to do a sage green... any suggestions???

The home is single story, was built in 1993 and is in Texas. The attic is plenty big enough with lots of headroom.

I am building an art studio in an old industrial building. It has great wood floors, but the dirt and grime on it is 75 years old, making the surface almost black. Is there a solution, chemical, or cleaning agent I can use to get this grime and grit off before I actually sand the floors? Or should I just go straight for the sander? Any other tips most appreciated. Thanks!

If you have an open floor plan and want to paint the kitchen and living room different colors, how do you transition from one color to the other? Is there just a line on the wall where one color stops and the other begins?

I have a few pieces of furniture from the Sourav Collection at Cost Plus World market. It's a dark mahogany wood imported from India i believe. I had watermarks that i wanted to remove and id' used some steel wool to remove the top layer of wax only to realize they use like a tinted wax and the furniture isn't actually stained. I was planning on buffing off old wax with steel wool and restoring it with a new coat of regular paste wax like ive done on other furniture.

Recently I've been to other houses and have seen how worn they get, and it looks like bare wood in the worn areas. I'd like to find some tinted or dark waxes that will bring the right color back does anyone have any recommendations?

Liberon makes different colored paste wax's for wood finishing but that would be expensive to buy several just to find the right color.

Go to the link then click sourav on the left links to see them:

I want the color to be a dark walnut wood color. The pieces of wood I have seen either don't stain well or half rough unfinished edges.
