The decision of whether or not to use a remodeling consultant is one that comes with pros and cons depending on your own expertise and confidence for planning and executing a home remodel. After all, consulting is one of those businesses that is oriented toward needing a particular service and, like other services, when it comes to deciding whether or not to hire a consultant for your home remodel.

as a painting contractor, I have little good to say about consultants. They will 'tell you' what should be done in 'your' home, what colors to use, how to decorate it etc....bottom line..they aren't coming home to it - you are!....as a contractor I have seen ghastly colors that I have to paint, but, I can't see it from my living room either, so I apply the colors. You can go to open houses in your general vicinity, Parade of homes, decorating mags, home improvement stores...theres lots of free advice out there. Consultants are (in my opinion) over rated and defiantly way over payed!!! You need to look into things that will make your house - your home. Spend the $$ on your home rather than paying a consultant to put their touches in your 'home"...

Heck no, go to some new developments where they have the model homes and get ideas from those. They use all the latest styles, and thing you may not have thought of. Beats paying someone to go and do this for you and you get to see it first hand. Ask if you can take pictures so your spouse can see, that way you have a reference and don't have to try to remember that thing! Good luck to you.

There are so many websites which give excellent ideas. Check out some of the television network websites to connect to the decorating shows on t.v.
