donate,
sell some things,
or my new favorite thing, space saver bags, you can buy them in alot of stores and what they are is pretty much a big bag which you can put clothes or linen or blankets in, seal the bag up and then use a normal vacuum cleanser to get the air out and it squashes it all and condenses the size of the clothes. brilliant, i know.

Donate some of the stuff you have not touched in at least one year. That will do it.

Don't hoard junk either!

I installed a tall book case at the back of my closet with lose of shelves to store my shoes.

Get rid of the stuff that you don't use, wear, or want anymore. I would use your local freecycle group for that. www.freecycle.org and then, think of it as a puzzle. That is what those organizer things do anyway. You want to put things in as small a space as you can.
