The item I want to cover is a worn bankers chair. It is pleather and damaged. I don't know how to make a pattern. I don't want to make it too small. How much extra should be added to allow for curves, etc.? Any tips would be very helpful.

There are pre-fit stretchable slip covers you can buy already made if it's a livingroom chair. But for a chair for like in an office, well first if the leather wasn't too bad then I'd fix it with the stuff you fix for seats in a car. If it's badly ripped then I'd rip it all off and start all over. If you sew then I would suggest you lay one layer of newspaper onto the seat and cut it out exactly the size of the seat, then measure the height and width of the band going around the seat.

I'd find a piece of drapery material that I liked and then I'd place the pieces of paper onto the drapery material and pin them down. Then I'd allow an inch of material around the seat piece of the newspaper (which is your pattern) and I'd cut that out. And I'd allow about 4 inches extra in the height of the band part (the other pattern piece) and cut that out. And then I'd sew those pieces together first sewing near the edges (then test it on the seat) and then sewing it to fit the seat. What you have left over would go under the seat and can be glued to the seat (or nailed if it's a wood seat).

OK I looked it up and it looks like your dealing with just the seat part this is easy what you do is unscrew /staple the bottom then just take the old fabric off and all the staple out and make a pattern from that just an inch bigger all the way around then re staple and re screw in the seat 20minutes should do it.
. Rule of thumb your first time I would go 1 inches all the way around cut bigger you can always make smaller. Don't go with to much plaid or pattern you will have to match up.or have off kiltter.
