This is for the kitchen...We are going to paint the walls a rich tan called "cashmere". The cabinets are being stained a deep red cherry color and the floors are bamboo that have the same color as the cabinets as well as dark striations in it. We are looking at doing a corian counter top with a beige theme. All the appliances are black.

The kitchen is large and open and the flooring is going into the adjacent room that will be painted a chocolate color, this is a game room/family room and it is also very large.

So the question is, what do you think about painting the trim in the kitchen BLACK? we really want some input on this. the rest of the house has cashmere paint and WHITE trim. The family room will be chocolate with white trim. we have been debating every aspect of this kitchen for months and it is getting tiresome.

We have brushed nickle hardware if that means anything to you and lots of windows.

That sounds awesome! Black is an excellent accent color with both tan and cherry red. With all the other natural surfaces, a black granite counter top would be consistent with your design scheme. I'm not familiar with corian, but if it is available in black or black with tan flecks in a glossy finish to resemble granite, that would tie all the elements of the room together very nicely. I know you're probably thinking....a black counter top? Gasp! But take a look at some of the pictures before you reject the idea. It looks rich and has an exciting appeal.

Your colors sound very similar to ours only the cabinets are more of a hazelnut but we did black trim on the cabinets and have a black countertop and black appliances and it is GREAT. Just don't go overboard with the black wall trim with white trim in the rest of the house. I think you will not like the result if your floor plan is so open as to see all those colors at once. black trim on the walls will be hard to re-do if you don't like it.

I would go with a paler shade of the cashmere or a darker tone of it. Black is very high maintainance and trim is a higher maintainance area.

Black IS an excellent accent color and unifies the room. I love your choice of the black appliances in this setting.

I just recently did a silver, white and charcoal black kitchen... all the crown moldings, trim, doors etc are painted charcoal black. It looks fantastic!

And just for your info, black trim, door and moldings is the up and coming decorating trend, both inside and outside. Go for it!

1. Try using silver-leafing... to match your brushed nickle hardware.
But also, once you go black... it's very hard to go back!

2. Or... if you keep the trim the same color as the walls... but maybe apply some texture... to it first... it will blend in nicely with some details.

I think if I were you, I would keep the trim White like the rest of the house. The black sounds like it would look neat, but it is probably something you would get tired of soon.

Off white or stain them the same color as the cabinets.

I am just wondering if it would be too much black. I personally would look into doing a lighter chocolate to be more matching
