With all this "Go Green!" nonsense going on, you would think we would be graduating to better construction habits. Tankless water heaters, solar panels on roofs, compost heap areas in yards, WiFi- Broadband ready homes, etc.

I've been spotting these nasty little bugs usually late at night, in the kitchen or in the bathroom, they are silverfish and I don't know how to get rid of them! I've killed about 5 of them in the past couple weeks but I'm having family over next weekend for my sons bday party and I don't want any of my family seeing them! I read something about putting tape around a small jar and the silverfish can climb up the jar with the tape on it but once in the jar they can't climb out bc the surface inside is smooth. I hadn't noticed any of these bugs until I started putting new wall paper up in the bathroom! I hate creepy little bugs, just thinking about them makes me itch and tingle like something crawling on me!

These equipments could have saved houses where wild fires are possible. Developers should be required to install these equipments or at least backyard fire hydrants where necessary.

I have 4 yellow mums in their pot. The blooms all turned brown already! I think the problem was that Ithe spot that I had them in didn't really get sun, so they are now moved to a sunnier spot. Is it too late for them this season? :(

HGTV used to be about creating personalized lifestyles, about getting your hands dirty in gardens you intend to watch mature from inside homes that reflected your character.

Now, it's curb appeal, increasing the market value of your home, squeezing every last cent out of prospective buyers, & turning your home into an ATM instead of building equity so that your home will always be your soft place to fall.

It's about what people will pay for 300 square feet in New York City, couples in crisis because they can't manage a bath remodel for less than $30,000, a kitchen remodel for less than $100,000, & newlyweds who can't find their dream home on a "budget" of $400,000.00.

Landscaping is not gardening. Copying is not decorating.

It's a leap to say that HGTV's exploitation of a homeowner's desire to turn a buck is responsible for the housing crisis in this country but, hey, sometimes the tail does wag the dog.

That's my take, what's yours?

I have a picture of me and someone I would like to burn onto a nice piece of wood for them to keep. It's a regular picture we took together, and I thought about tracing it onto the wood, and burning over the design with the woodburning tool. How can I do that? I've used carbon paper to trace other things, but they were just letters and stuff. I think I may need to edit the picture a certain way so I can trace and burn it onto the wood. This make sense? How do I do this? I want to get started on it soon, so any advice ASAP will be most helpful.

I would like to know the feasibility of using a gel stain on top of an acrylic lacquer clear coat. I have a piece of furniture made of pine with an acrylic lacquer clear coat and would like to stain the piece a different color. It isn't worth it to strip the piece, so I only want to know about coatings which could be applied over the acrylic lacquer (if any).

If a stain is possible, then what would be a suitable topcoat to seal in the stain? More acrylic lacquer?

I am tearing out all of the cabinets and removing all of the appliances from the room regardless. I have seen people set the cabinets on the subfloor and tile up to them as well as tile underneath before setting the cabinets. Same with appliances. Which is the proper way, assuming the room is completely cleared out to start with.

I am in the process of finishing my basement. Im at the point to have carpet installed. The carpet folks are telling me the base trim should be installed prior to the carpet being installed - and should it about 1/2" off the floor. The trim guy is telling me the carpet should be installed first.

Who's right??

My cat likes to bite and pull out the feathers. Does anyone know where I could buy the plastic covers like the ones lamp shades come with when you buy them new?
I know it sounds tacky, but it's better than what I am doing now which is using the lamps with a bare bulb and no shade :)
