Hi. Bonsai do need attention but its not that hard to look after them. First find out if it is an outdoor plant or the ones for indoor. You should have been given a small plant label with it. If not don't worry go down to your local Library and in the reference section of the plants or gardening section you will find that they have a huge range of information. If you are not sure of where to find this ask any of the staff they will help you even with down loading info. Advise you to take a small piece of the plant with some greenery ie:- leaves with you for identity purpose's.
Most plants will be quite happy in their situation/planter for at least a couple of years so the only thing you need to do is mist spray and watering when needed.
You will need to trim it each season. Best way to describe as you having a light hair-cut. Try to keep it in a natural state .
Wishing you success and watching the plant change in character as the seasons change. Good Luck.

You'll never go on vacation again or else you'll have to take your Bonsai with you. Nice plant, beautiful gift, the person likes you as they are rather expensive, but had to keep, unless your lucky. Good luck. I also heard in a garden centre today that it is best to spray it to water it, not pour water on the roots.

Find out first what tree you have. Don't take a bit off.....you might spoil the shape. Get a book from the library as said already. Don't be intimidated. Keep you bonsai in good light but out of direct sun or it will dry out too fast. never let it dry out but keep moist. Treat it like a baby...feed and water regularly but don't leave it sitting in the bath or it will drown. After a couple of years lift it out of the pot and look at the roots. If there are big thick ones you might cut them back but leave as many of the little hairy ones as you can. Perhaps whoever gave it to you can tell you where it came from. They will be able to advise. Look at your tree every day, keep it trimmed to shape....good luck. S

You need to look in a book to find the care needed for that specific plant. Some are indoor but the best ones are outdoor. They are trees after all. And yes they need a lot of looking after. Daily attention even, especially in the summer.

Hundreds of species are made into bonsai. First you have to determine where it is to be kept. OFTEN, instructions say you can keep it indoors OR outdoors, and that applies only to a very few species of trees. You're welcome to send a photo to me at:
wchoat@american-bonsai.com , and I'll let you know where you are to keep it. Meanwhile, you'll want to read the Bonsai Care page of my site:

Best of wishes.....
