i bought a slip-cover for my bed's duvet, and it's a very very light blue, but i'm changing the room's paint color and want to dye the duvet white. as i said before, it's a light blue, very thin cotton material. would i use bleach to wash out the blue, or is there another chemical i need? is there a particular brand that will work best? will the fabric stay soft after i've changed it, or will it become coarse and starchy? the final product doesn't have to be PERFECTLY white, as it will be tie-dyed afterwards.
thank you :)

I work at a professional environment where smoking is allowed if you can keep the smell away from yourself. Obviously i can't wash my clothes prior to walking in from break so does anyone have any good methods of quickly getting rid of the smell other than quitting the bad habbit? All serious answers please, and please don't lecture me. Thank you,

I would imagine it will be awkward because of the mesh.
So, any tips would be helpful.

Is it possible to darken hardwood floors without going through the trouble of sanding them? I have a golden oak colour of hardwood and I would like to "deepen" the colour but I since I am not handy, I do not want to sand them.

The roof is new and my contracter said it was from condensation. I was worried that it might be dry rot in the ceiling since the roof leaked for a while b 4 we purchased the house. The house was built in 1950, and I had a new home b4 this one and have never seen condensation turn the ceiling brown. We have a similar issue in one of the bed room upstairs where a patch keep turning brown.I posted a question about it on here.

Does anybody know a good/safe way to remove mold from old books? I had a large box of old kid books that got very wet and now are growing black spores. Any ideas will be much appreciated!

My cats are destroying my potted palm. It was a large potted palm about 3 ft. high. I have it in a pot that has a 10 inch base and wider sides at the top. It does have a drainage hole. The cats have got it down to 3 frons and 3 new shoots. I have taken steps to keep the cats away from it but its really looking terrible. I put sheets of lint roller tape in the pot to keep the cats out and spray them with a plant sprayer.

I want to redecorate a family room from the ground up. I thought I should start by picking carpet and wall colors, then buy a new sofa and accessories. Is that the best way to start? The only feature in the room that I cannot change is a brick fireplace with an oak mantle. It's very nice brick with variegated colors (putty, sand, etc.) and gray mortar. I don't know if I should go with a traditional brown leather sofa or get more creative and choose a colored leather, like a burgundy or navy blue. Thoughts?

This racoon keeps getting into my house, into my alcohol cabinet and drinking my freakin rum! its the third time it has happened! I dont know how it gets into the house, and it always goes for the rum!
Today it was passed out in the backyard... i got the hose and sprayed it and it drunkly crawled away...
and just 5 minutes ago I saw it running across my yard so it must be sobering up by now...
anyone have a similar problem with drunken racoons???

I want to install a cast iron stove into an existing chimney. I understand that I need a register plate. What should this be made off and does it need a door for the chimney to be swept? How well must it be sealed? If anyone can help, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I'm on a budget, have a smaller cheaper home (worth $250,000) in a nice neighborhood (homes cost $300K+), but I'm on a tight budget now and want to install new nice quality "carpet remnants" from the flooring store. HOW BAD IS IT IF 2 BEDROOMS AND MAIN LIVING AREA ARE EACH A DIFFERENT COLOR CARPET? example, kids room had new blue pile installed 5 years ago, I can get a 400ft sq remnant for 85% off ($50) and a 250 ft sq remnant for master bdr for 85% off ($35) and do the labor myself...I am also thinking of just "rotating" the old pad, but I haven't pulled up the old carpet yet. Ideas..opinions?

I have a very large Acacia Green Mist (approx. 1.5m x 1m) in a garden bed and I need to remove it from the bed and hopefully re-use it elsewhere. So, can these be split or easily propagated? Any advice would be appreciated as I really don't want to lose this excellent healthy plant.

I recently blew up an ink by accident in the dryer and used Nail Polish Remover to get it out. However I then read that nail polish remover is high flammable so I started to wipe the dryer with water. Are dried up traces of nail polish remover so flammable? How can I make sure that nothing bad happens?
