The roof is new and my contracter said it was from condensation. I was worried that it might be dry rot in the ceiling since the roof leaked for a while b 4 we purchased the house. The house was built in 1950, and I had a new home b4 this one and have never seen condensation turn the ceiling brown. We have a similar issue in one of the bed room upstairs where a patch keep turning brown.I posted a question about it on here.

Maybe the wrong kind of nails were used for the drywall and they are presenting rust marks. Are the lines about 16 inches apart and are the dots about eight inches apart. If that is the case, you need to refloat the ceiling, seal it with an oil based primer, and then paint with an acylic latex.

condensation does cause little brown dots. Clean the ceiling good with water and bleach, then repaint and add a mold remover made especially for paint to the gallon of paint you are using. I did that and have not had a mold problem since. And ventilation helps alot. Open the window and/or turn on the fan.

All the above then install an exaust fan in ceiling hooked up with the light whn your light comes on the fan does also and it sucks hot steam/ air out hence no more bad condensation.

your bathroom is not being ventilated enough after showers the condensation from showers is causing mildew/mold to grow. have the fan on in the bathroom while showering and for about 30-1hour after the shower to help and leave the door open after the shower is complete. if you are home alone and able to leave the door open during the shower that will help too not to trap in the condensation from the steam. remember steam is evatoprating water and if it cannot escape it will hold onto your walls and ceiling...
