it won't be spread out as much but will give out the same lumins. if of similar bulb type

Not necessarily. The power consuption will be the same. You need to compare Lumens, light output. Power use does not directly convert to light output. Some of the long life bulbs have heavier filiments which do not produce the same visible light at a given power.

for inside frosted bulb incandescent lamps

60w lumens=840
two x 60w lumens= 1680

40w lumens=465
three x 40 w lumens=1395

the two x 60w bulbs provide more lights
