Normal of the shelf kitchen base units with the legs on around 850-880mm.
as you can adjust the height.
the height was worked out in the 1950's (average comfortable working height for a woman).
Yes very sexist, but true.
As I like to cook too, I built mine at 950mm.
A work top will be around 20-30mm.
I would suggest working out your most comfortable height, and work with that.
providing you white goods fit under, its does not matter.

No Offense but Kitchen "UNIT"???
It largely depends on cabinetry; if you're speaking in that sense; which is pretty much standard. Mine happen to be 33 1/2. Then the thickness of whatever Type of top you install might also vary. Obviously the notion is comfort. A very short person might want the counter tops lower; while a very tall person might want the cabinetry built up from the floor so as not to have to bend so low to work.

Standard is 34 1/2" for stock and semi-custom. Custom can be made whatever size you want, but if you don't specify, they will also be built at standard. Hope this helps.

It's variable because they come with adjustable plastic feet which will allow a rise of about four inches.

being taller than average i decided to raise it slightly... after all that's the benefit of diy isn't it?
