A good dusting with baby powder and leave for at least 1 hour then vacuum off .
Failing that buy a new carpet.

It is probably something stronger than powder that you need. It kinda depends on what they had to eat that day also I believe. You may need to look at blotting with a white vinegar and water solution, following up with an OXY cleaner and then get the carpet shampooed (or shampoo your own if you have a machine. I am swearing by the OXY now. My 2-year old is very loose with his sippy cups spilling milk all over the carpet in my car which had started to rot and smell like hell's toejam. I scrubbed with with the oxy carpet shampoo and it brought the rotten milk smell out but the orange juice spilled in the trunk is a harder issue but it is probably because the juice soaked into the cardboard that supports the trunk floor. if I replace that i should be good but the OJ and milk smell went from a nauseating 100% to a bearable 15% of OJ only.

First shampoo the carpet. You may have to go rent one and they do a very good job. Then while the carpet is still damp sprinkle a lot of baking soda on it and let it all dry. When it is dry vacuum the soda up and then sprinkle clean baking soda on the area and rub it to get it deep into the carpet and let it set for several days. Then vacuum again and it should be gone!!! This worked at my friends house who had a cat pizz on her carpet and the smell is GONE!!!!

Used coffee grounds instead (dried), they are very good odour absorber, but I suggest you try again with bicarbonate of soda this way: cover the entire stain with a thick layer of bicarb, not just a sprinkling, you may need lots of it. Cover with a plastic bag and put heavy objects on the edge to hold the bag down. Leave for 24 hours and vacuum, don't use water.

Either visit or call your Stanley Steamer store. They have a product that you squirt on the carpeting and then leave. After it dries, the smell is gone. It kills the bacteria that is keeping the smell in the carpet. I can't remember the name of it - Just descibe what I have described and tell them it is for pet odors and vomit...It is in a squirt bottle and costs around $22.00 - Good Luck :)

EEWWWWW!!! I would try white vinegar. Although it is also strong smelling, it will eventually evaporate away and take the vomit smell with it. Or, another option is peroxide. It is absolutely harmless to fabrics and won't discolor, etc. Spritz on a heavy coat. Scrub a bit with a brush. Suck up with a wetvac. Peroxide is awesome for blood too. It will bubble up and boil it right out.

The BEST thing to do is use a carpet shampooer/extractor. Might as well do the whole carpet while you are at it. You can rent one fairly cheaply.

The problem stain sprays is that they often leave a residue that will pick up dirt, etc. Even the name brand ones will do this.

clean the area with carpet cleaners (the ones in the store; like shampoos/ect) but you might have to call a pro as some stains set in deep (and cant be removed by basic methods; meaning without a machine)

Get a soda syphon and squirt the area with soda water, then blot it dry. Repeat that several times and the smell will be gone. Works on cat pee too!
