Well get yourself a big garbage can and some really large contracter bags and just start throwing things away that you don't need.. When the "garbage" is gone then you can focus on the rest of the mess. I suggest you get some bins and label KEEP,TOSS,DONATE, or SELL and get to sorting. Don't worry about every scrap of paper.. Put it in the keep and sort while you are watching television later on that night. Any laundry put in the hamper.. Any dishes put in the sink.. When you can see the floor and have everything either sorted or put away.. Then you can focus on actually cleaning the living space.. I would start with one room at a time or you'll just be moving "junk" around. Maybe if you spring for pizza some of your friends' can help you. Since, I'm sure they come over to party ! If you or a friend has a shop vac it is really handy for vacuuming and freshing up your furniture.. Good luck

When we moved into our home now, the previous tenants were extremely messy...I started with the important rooms, the kitchen and then went to the living room and the bedrooms and then the bathroom, since the bathroom is clean already your good on that. it took me a whole day but it was worth it. Really once you start it just breezes by, you just have to tuck in and get to it. First you need to pick up all the clothes needing to be washed, then pick up all of the trash and then break out the cleaners and start.
Then from now on, pick up after yourself, always wash the dishes the day you use them, it works best when you wash them while cooking (meaning when your done with that dish wash it or rinse it and stick it in the dishwasher) and pick a day when you can devote a good hour or two to cleaning, mine is Sunday. It shouldn't get messy again if you do that.

Grab a huge plastic trash bag and walk around picking up all thash (and take it out!),
then pick up your clothes and put in laundry basket (worry about doing laundry later),
Pick up all your papers, bills ect, I always make piles of all the paper stuff(looks more organized, go through it later),
tidy up and vacuum.
Put all the dishes in the dishwasher, well if you don't have one wash them and dry right away and put them away, wipe down the counters ect.
Also, open all the windows, get the funk out plus fresh air gives you energy.
Once you can "see the light" try re-setting the furniture (put couch at an angle, go to the store and buy a plant or two) that will make you feel like you're in a "new" place and hopefully you won't let it get too far again next time.
After the next party, clean up right away (or the next morning, hangover or not!).
Make it a Saturday fun thing, get some beers, play some music and start cleaning! Your girl guests will appreciate it!

Start one room at a time. I start by making the bed and straightening up the bedroom (or changing the sheets if necessary.) Then working on the kitchen. Last the living room. Trust me I hate to clean too but I feel so much better when I'm all done.

Start in your living room and sort every thing out and take it to the proper rooms, don't put it away right then just put it in the proper rooms, then start on the kitchen, and straighten it up. A clean kitchen always makes your house look cleaner. After the kitchen, then finish cleaning the living room and then start on your bedrooms. Make the bed first that will also make your bedroom look alot better. And when it looks better it will make you want to clean the rest of it up. Good luck and hope you get it cleaned soon.

Just pick a room and start. I have a tendency to get bored with just one room tho, so I usually start one room, take something to another room, do a little in there, and just keep moving around the house til I get everything done. That way, if I dont' have time to finish everything, at lease all of the rooms are better then they were.

Looking at all of it overwhelms you.Try one area at a time. For health reasons clean the bathroom **** & span,a toilet should be the cleanest for any woman who may visit or they may never come back. When that's done feel proud of yourself!Pat youself on the back.Rest.Next for health reasons, gather all dirty dishes go to kitchen, clean dishes, wipe stove & counters down, throw out all expired food from fridge & clean shelves.Be proud, pat yourself on the back,& rest.Next get garbage bags & go around & collect all garbage.Be proud of your work thus far.Pat yourself on the back.Rest.Next put fresh bedding on your bed & gather laundry to wash, set aside.Be proud, pat self on back,& rest. Now go start the laundry, while that's happening, sweep, vacum, mop floors.Be proud of your work, pat yourself on the back & rest.Lastly will be maintenence like dusting, wiping away marks & such on all walls & surfaces.Pat yourself on the back.Rest.This may take you a week, that's okay, you'll see what you've done & feel proud of yourself.Pat yourself on the back!Remember:There is a Big differance between "Filthty" & "Messy",keep this in mind. After this big accomplishment the work will become weekly maintenance. You can do it,just a little at a time!

If it is a big job you need to do it in steps. Trust me I have been there before. I have even thrown everthing in the extra bedroom when a girl came over. Anyways i would suggest a 3 day plan of action
step 1 throw sh*t away get trashbags and throw all the trash away
step 2 get all the surfaces. dust and scrub all surfaces in your house
step 3 vacuum/mop yes you have done the surfaces now get the floors
or PAY SOMEONE WHO IS BROKE TO CLEAN IT

i start cleaning where ever i can store the most stuff....like if you ahve a lot of magazines, books, DVDs, CDs, and you have a book shelf that you keep them on (Or if you don't have one...go get one)...and then start organizing all that.
If anything needs to be washed, do that, start in one room and work your way to the next, i would start with the room you use the least....keep a trash can next to you so you can throw anything away that you haven't used in the past 6 months...
Finally Vaccum the floor...no sense in vaccuming it before you wipe off any counters, dressers, tables etc...you will just have to do it again later

what i would do to not make it overwhelming is start with one room at a time. clean it totally then a day or two later get to another room. or start slowly thru all the rooms, like pick up all the trash in the house one day then sweep and dust another day then ect...or do what i do and have your lil sis come over and do it and pay her 20 bucks!
