Thank you for your answers. I will give the peppermint oil a shot, since I don't want to have to handle the dead mice if I don't have too.
I do have a cat, and he will catch one periodically, but he only plays with them when he catches them....so, not much use there.
A lot of great suggestions and I will try them until I find the one that works. Pesky little buggers those mice are....grrrrrr.
Thanks everyone!!

Oil of peppermint. I grew up and now live in a home with a field stone foundation and when it rains too much or gets cold the mice always try to come in. I put oil of peppermint on a cotton ball in the basement, cabinets and closets. They hate it and it works. Your house smells really nice and after a few weeks I just add more oil.

You can get it at a drugstore from the pharmacist or in a health food store or on the Internet.

They have the sonic repellants. You might do well to use those or a "no kill" trap that you will have to throw in the garbage but there is a squiggling mouse in it. The expierences that I have had with the sonic repellants leads me to believe that they work. You might want to get more than just one if you are buying it from a grocery store. Maybe one for every major room of the house or invest in a larger one closer to professional grade if you want to get the job done and eliminate those mice with prejudice! Unleash a horde of cats in your house. After all the mice are gone and you don't want the cats any longer, unleash a horde of dogs. When the cats are gone and you wish the same for the dogs, unleash Mountain Lions. After that you're kind of on your own...

FYI when you use D-con, the mice don't just drop dead in your living room. The poison only works after they drink water.... it makes them thirsty and they go back outside for water and that's where they die.

Moth balls. And, steel wool in any little holes in the wall you might find. They hate steel wool for some reason. Get a kitten..... a baby cat would probably run circles around your grown cat ;o)

Vitamin D3 If not mistaken I buy a different one they look like pellets but it works apparently it stops their heartbeat...I have those blue-greenish pellets in my room and they sure eat for dinner at night and of course they die either outside or inside but be careful if you have kids or other pet animals inside I got them at the Dollar stores...or ask the animal terminators expertise...or you can yahoo search and type hot to kill rodents around your house...

You can try traps, they have humane ones, where they don't die, or buy a snake and let it loose in the house, you will never have a problem again, other then a well fed snake in the house.
