There has been this horrific smell for about a week now, we assumed that it was a dead animal somewhere. Any way we went searching to see where the smell came from, cut down weeds trimed bushes, and found a plastic bag with another bag inside. It was covered with flies and magets. I don't want to move it because I don't know what's in it. The bag is big enough to hold any animal and or a small child. The inside bag or bags are white ( can't see through) and the top layer bag is thick and clear.

I have 1 BIG BIG one, and now I bought 5 smaller ones to make a border to my flowerbed...
The smaller ones are about the fifth of the size of the biggest one. I don't want any drastic different sizes....

And when is the best time to do so -- for a 5b aera ? (Ottawa, Canada)

We live in a large, old apartment complex, and we get VERY hard water. The stains show up on the shower walls within a week, and I'm mostly concerned about skin problems for my 2 year old, who never had eczema before and is now getting patches of dry, peeling skin on her face.

We've tried talking to building management, and we were returned with "there is nothing we can do". We don't want to move just for the hard water, it's a lovely apartment other than that problem.

Is there anything we can install inside the apartment to soften the water?

I just moved into an apartment and I have a HUGE spider problem! It is just a small one bed one bath apt, I keep it very clean with not clutter and nothing on the floor but I see at least one spider a day. Last night, I saw 2 within 10 minutes of eachother and then another one this morning. I kill them everytime I see it so I am not seeing the same one. I have the bug man come once a week. I don't know what else to do... does anyone know what will keep the spiders away??

I'm seriously thinking about moving out. Please help!!

I'm having a window removed from my kitchen above my sink and would love to replace it with a cabinet/plate rack sort of unit (if you watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air re-runs there's one in their kitchen). Problem is, the space is 3.5 feet wide and I can't find a plate rack/shelf in conventional sizes anywhere, let alone a custom size. I did find one at IKEA.com but it's only 30" wide. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money because I'm already just about tapped out with my current home renovations.

my uncle clogged the toilet, and i forgot that it was clogged and went to the bathroom. i scooped out my feces with a shovel (which was nauseating) and then tried to plunge. i flushed the toilet again, and it was still clogged. the toilet is now filled with brown, murky liquid. did i use the plunger correctly? and are there any quick, inexpensive solutions?

I have a house share and only have one room to myself. Can any of you innovative people think of the best way to make the small place more cosy and homely with simple touches?

many thanks

Our lawn is starting to get some other type of grass growing and we can't figure out what it is. I took pictures of it and was wondering if someone can identify it and if so how to get rid of it. We think it is crabgrass, but not sure. Our original grass is tall fescue.

Here are the flickr pictures with the unidentified grass being highlighted:

Two years ago my lawnmower broke down and I never replaced it. The problem is that the three gallon gas-can I used to fill up my lawnmower with, still has gasoline in it.

my sister lives down the road from me, i have just had a pay rise from work i wondered if my friends and family might think it is just actual laziness if i asked (and paid) my sister to help our with the general day to day upkeep of my home

i went to a friend of mines house the other day and it was just lovely to go into her home and be able to sit down and feel uncluttered in her home,

it quite upset me and i am really embarrased but i have to admit i am not able to do it by myself

would you automatically call that lazy or not

what do you think if i used my pay rise to treat my self to having someone else to help me run the day home keeping

oooh i am so embarrased

would you be

is it best to admit defeat after all this time

i am just so upset with all the muddles

i am not dirty i am just very untidy i would be nice to have it clear when i get in at the end of the working day

would you do this

what do you think

All set to leave for the weekend, went downstairs to feed the cats, heard water running, went to the utility room to find the contents of the water heater all over the floor! Only bright spot is that it's below the level of the rest of the house!

No, I'm not repairing it myself. Plumbers will be here soon. I hate losing all the stuff we had stored down there, though!

Please help me identify it so that I know how to care for it. It has beautiful small pink flowers and "tentacles" with narrow pods at the ends. It smells exactly of marijuana but it obviously isn't.

ok I saw this giant "ant" and i went to smack it with a shoe and he just kept on crawling. so I smashed him again a lil harder and it didnt even phase him. on my third attempt to kill it i stepped on it as hard as i could and even twisted my foot around to make sure he was dead and the only thing i succeeded in doing was tear his butt away from the rest of his body and he just kept on crawling. It looked like reddish ant but it was huge! like 1/4 an inch long and it was like his body was super hard or something. i couldnt squash him no matter how hard i tried. what in the hell was it? i read a few things that suggested it was an ant-mimic spider but i cant find any pics or facts about the kind i saw so i don't know. anyone who is knowledgeable about bugs please help me out or suggest where i might look to find out. by the way.... I live in louisiana in case that helps at all. thanks!

I bought a plant from Home Depot a few weeks ago, and I keep it on my desk at work. I don't know what type of plant it is, but it seems to be growing and healthy. But when I came back on Tuesday after the weekend, I found little yellow things all over the top leaves... ewww! At first I thought it had something to do with growth process or maybe that it was natural, but then every day this week, more little yellow things appeared and then they had little gray leg looking things sticking out. I took a napkin and wiped them off, and after researching, I learned that they are aphids and that they will come back:( Where did they come from and what do I have to do to make sure they don't come back?

I have a hole in the ceiling with a metal housing around the perimeter of it. How do i disconnect the ducting hose from the metal housing of my vent? Its screwed in with screws and i can't reach around and unscrew them. Should i cut of the ducting hose? And when i attach the new unit to the hose how should i connect it together? I hope i can connect it without disconnecting the other side of the hose ducting attached to the top of the roof.
